Title: Is the Jesus Family Tomb the BIGGEST Archaeological Discovery in History?
Post by: Brad Watson on 04/12/2016 12:19:03
The discovery of the Jesus Family Tomb (google that) is the BIGGEST and most controversial archaeological find in history! It proves that Y'shua bar Yosef (Jesus son of Joseph) and his family were real historical figures. It also proves that Mariamne (Mary Magdalen) was his wife. But the real apple cart that it turns over are the Christian dogmas that "Jesus was born of a virgin" and "He had a bodily ascension into heaven 40 days after his crucifixion" on Friday April 7, 30 AD and that "He has remained in heaven ever since".
http://JesusFamilyTomb.com
http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_Family_Tomb

The archaeologist most involved with the discovery of the Jesus Family Tomb in East Talpiot (between Jerusalem and Bethlehem) was Simcha Jacovichi. He implies that Jesus' never had a resurrection and that in the tradition of the day, his crucified body was placed in a tomb and a year after his death, his bones were placed in an ossuary. Other members of his family were also placed in ossuaries. But why couldn't Jesus have survived his crucifixion - had a near-death experience - and lived possibly another 40 years and then his body was placed in the tomb and a year later, his bones placed in an ossuary?

Whatever one's religious beliefs, they shouldn't affect true archaeological work and the work of unbiased historians.

Proving that there was a Jesus, sone of Joseph is meaningless unless you can show that he was THE Jesus , son of Joseph.
Nobody has got close to the second bit yet so the answer to your question is no.

Although people survive crucifixion if they are cut down fairly quickly I would expect them to succumb to blood poisoning pretty soon

I usually refer to Jesus son of Joseph or as he was called while alive: Y'shua bar Yosef. I do this because it's historically correct and focuses on the "virgin birth" being a myth. Occasionally, a conservative Christian will sarcastically ask me, "Who is Jesus son of Joseph?" I tell them, "Look at John 1:45, 'Jesus son of Joseph the Nazarean'". They then disappear.

A BIG part of what 'The Lost Tomb of Jesus' DVD/'The Jesus Family Tomb' book exposes is "Y'shua bar Yosef written on his ossuary", therefore indirectly pointing out that the "virgin birth" of Jesus is a myth that should be abandoned.

The discovery of the Jesus Family Tomb corrects several Christian dogmas: his father was Joseph and his mother didn't have a 'virgin birth'. Jesus was human and died on the Cross and was buried with there being no resurrection or he had a near-death experience and lived maybe another 40 years. He was married to Mary Magdalen (marry Mary?!) and they had a child or two. He definitely had 4 brothers and two sisters - he was one of 7 children.

Wrong. You obviously haven't watched the DVD 'The Lost Tomb of Jesus' or read the book 'The Jesus Family Tomb'. The evidence is extensive or I wouldn't have brought it up here.

History records at least 17 crucified saviour-gods born of virgins (one dated about 1800 BC, in Mexico), and since nobody has ever come  back to tell the tale, we have no reason to believe in anyone's ascension into anything.

Finding the tomb of a famous rabbi's family is interesting, but a significant family tomb implies a significantly wealthy family, not quite the penniless son of a carpenter, nor even a jobbing carpenter, but at least a master craftsman with a permanent workshop  Apostles or employees, one wonders? Now that makes sense - a firm of contract builders or cabinetmakers whose boss is a bit of a religous revolutionary. "Follow me" or "Want a job, mate?" - which seems the more likely?

Do you really not understand that a DVD isn't actually  evidence?

Synchronism: 12/13/16 8:19 "Artemis was a virgin goddess." - 'Age of the Apostles', 'Ancient Roads from Christ' (S1/Ep3, 2015) currently on WXEL public TV

Jesus son of Joseph had a near-death experience on Friday April 7, 30 AD. As soon as he was brought down from the Cross, his wife Mary Magdalen and Mary Mother immediately cleaned his wounds and body. Before he was wrapped and placed in the nearby tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, his body was again cleaned and prepared very well.

About 38 hours after being taken down from the Cross before sunset/the Sabbath, Y'shua appeared at sunrise on Sunday April 9 to his wife Mariamne.

Thanks for clearing  up any remaining uncertainty.
It's numerology; so we now know that there's nothing to see.
If that's the only thing you have, then give up.

Do you have a list of those "17 crucified saviour-gods born of virgins"? I bet $74 you can't prodcue that.

Wrong. Reincarnation has now been proven by science (google that). Are you glad to hear that?

Jesus son of Joseph was the righful 'King of the Jews". 'Tekton'* in Greek meant 'artisan, craftsman, mason, carpenter, teacher'. Joseph and his sons were teachers. Y'shua received gold, frankincense, and myrrh as a baby.

*Synchronism: 12:51 "Jesus Christ!" - 'Raisins', 'South Park' on Comedy Channel

"Reincarnation has now been proven by science "
Got any proof?
I googled it; there wasn't anything that even looked a bit like proof.
Almost all the stuff I saw was another example of the Texas Sharpshooter fallacy.

You must be joking.
Surely you can't expect saying "I don't believe it" to carry any weight?
Pay up or we will all know that your word isn't worth anything.

Incidentally, you seem to have forgotten to provide evidence for reincarnation- or have you just accepted that there isn't any?

I can never understand christion obsession with Jesus not being married at his time the jews gave great importance to normal sexuality (the uncircumcised and the castrated were excluded from the synagogue) and the zeroth commandment is go forth and be fruitful as jesus as a would be rabbi would have felt bound to obey.

Bored chemist,

My last post went right over your heard, so I'll try again. Here's that list fom that Wikipedia article. NONE of them were CRUCIFIED.

Thulis of Egypt, 1700 B. C.[5]
Chrishna of India, 1200 B.C.
Crite of Chaldea, 1200 B.C.[6][7]
Atys of Phrygia, 1170 B.C.

Iao of Nepaul (Nepal), 622 B.C.[9][10]
Buddha Sakia (Muni) of India, 600 B.C.[11]
Mitra (Mithra) of Persia, 600 B.C.
Alcestos of Euripides, 600 B.C.
Quezalcoatl of Mexico, 587 B.C.
Wittoba of the Bilingonese, 552 B.C.[12]
Prometheus or Eschylus of Caucasus, 547 B.C.
Quirinus of Rome, 506 B.C.

Now, admit that you lost the $74 bet. Then I'll show you the scientific proof of reincarnation since you're unable to google it.

Can I just check if anyone else is getting PMs from brad that- to say the best of it, are no more accurate than his posts?
His recent missive reads "You're an asshole and that's the truth."

Am I alone in receiving his beneficence?

This  message
"You're a compulsive and pathological liar. WARNING! The theory of karma is as real as the theory of gravity. GOD/God-incarnate & reincarnation have been proven by science."
Would be insulting if he were someone I took seriously.
It's like having a 3 year-old shouting "You are horrid and you smell of wee!".
It's not exactly desirable, but it's hardly worth worrying about.
I'm hardly going to change my life on account of it.

The puzzling thing is that he seems unable to point out what it is I have said which isn't actually true.

Of course, if someone decided that he should be banned for abuse of the PM system, he can't logically object: It's karma.

Must be a bit galling for Joseph of Arimathea to learn that Jesus was buried somewhere else. Whose body was placed in Joseph's tomb? I smell a case of fraud, at least, or "impersonating the son of god" at worst.
