Kine instinct is not well inherited by man, they are a more or less a conditioning.
Woman have the maternal instincts built in and coded, some may say they all don't but it might be that they chose to ignore them.

Maybe survival, this is what may have inspired night watches and timed shifts.

Physiology & Medicine / ?Mumps most feared by adult males does it do damage all the time?
« on: 20/12/2010 21:55:21 »
male humans and mumps is fine for children to have, but as a male adult it may be most feared and as efficient, more cost affective, than a vasectomy without being cut...  it tamper proofs any chance of a baby maybe. But does it effect all adult males the same way by baking the best of our blood?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / What is inside a Black Hole?
« on: 20/12/2010 20:44:07 »
"Black Hole" I thought was a name given to a stellar body that the gravitational pull or acceleration is so great and the density of its matter so extreme that even light can not escape from it.

The Occam's razor has two adopted applications, fine or coarse
William of Ockham (c. 1285–1349) is remembered as an influential nominalist but his popular fame as a great logician rests chiefly on the maxim attributed to him and known as Ockham's razor. The term razor (the German "Ockhams Messer" translates to "Occam's knife") refers to distinguising between two theories either by "shaving away" unnecessary assumptions or cutting apart two similar theories.

General Science / Is a lightweight carbon-fibre bike worth the extra expense?
« on: 20/12/2010 18:12:41 »
Only the times you have to carry it up the stairs to your office on the 30Th floor when the elevator was broken. That may be a benefit there, but from what I read of the rider's experience, it may be just for prestige, to own the lightweight machine? An inflated ego would not add weight to a person, would it?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Are magnetic forces stronger than electric forces?

Good question William
I think the magnetic dark force is much greater that any electrostatic force in space; as it can cause Faraday rotation of plasma in space but I am not sure of its effect in vibrating a photon.
CliveS

What on Earth do you mean by "the magnetic dark force"? Is that something that was discovered in Star Wars?
I don't want to disrupt your soon tio be a perfect relationship with the forces
I would suggest to try  Googling this phrased question...

"Is LOVE the strongest force in the universe?"

It may seem to have an endless reply supplied

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Does space have an edge?
« on: 16/12/2010 02:59:34 »
Nobody knows either way. There are scientific instruments using indirect analysis of using the spectrum of light and the change of the spectrum over time.
It stands to reason that there is a scientific explanation that causes the differences.
Since the universe is so huge, to define an edge is like counting the number of grains of sand our earth is made of. Just because you can not see something, should that be a conclusion that it is not there?
The consensus leans to the point that there is no edge to the universe.
If it is discovered that there is, do you think anyone would listen, without first hand proof?

Technology / What causes a light bulb to burn out?
« on: 15/12/2010 01:19:08 »
I think I heard that mishandling a filament lamp can also have an affect on its lifespan.
Besides slamming it against the floor, the natural oils from a human touch can cause a blemish on the glass causing it to have a hotspot when heating up, fracturing the glass making the vacuum escape, oxidizing the filament, making the lamp malfunction.

General Science / Will a camera focus a mirror or the reflection?
« on: 14/12/2010 15:00:09 »
A clean mirror will produce an image that will be observed by the camera's optical censor whether it is a film camera or an electronic digital camera.
The camera might be in the view blocking some part of the reflective image, if not manipulated otherwise.
If the mirror is small and the background overwhelms the viewfinder then the camera will auto focus on the background.

Mirrors used in camera shots are used allot in trick photography, it's limit is your imagination

Remember the saying "Smoke and Mirrors"? It can apply.

Technology / Does driving a car with all the windows down consume more or less fuel?
« on: 13/12/2010 11:31:19 »
Sticking to the airflow factors all heater / air conditioning airflow venting apparatus closed.
Having the weather being the same, external environmental wind flow is at zero.
No other factors to interfer.
Can the passenger compartment act as a parachute?

I believe the internal pressure of the compartment will act as a bubble. The pressure on the windshield great will deflect the wind and reduce the side low inward pressure. As long as the compartment bubble stays in tact the turbulance will glide by the sides of the vehicle, making no difference in foreward drag.

Now put the top down you may have a gas milage increase

It depends whose dictionary you look at. The Germans have really silly word lengths because they use single words for compound nouns.
If you count proper nouns then http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llanfairpwllgwyngyll
beats mono...osis

I worked out that the Tesla would run flat out on a track for 20 minutes.

I think the top speed is more than 120mph, so in 20 minutes it should cover about 40 miles. This is well within the distance of the great majority of commute journeys. However, we don’t normally commute at 120 mph! What we need calculating is the time the battery will last for at somewhat lower speeds, maybe 60 mph, 30 mph, and perhaps the average car urban speed of, is it 20 mph, or is that a bit optimistic?

 120mi|  1 hr  |
--------------- = 20 mi / min
 1 hr | 60 min |

in 20 minutes it would cover 400 miles not 40 mile

If there is a direct relation to speed and the life of the battery 30 miles an hr is 4 times less in speed if it is a linear relationship, which batteries are not linear discharge rate the distance of tavel would be 4 times longer or 1600 miles
