Why cabbage & cheese?

Is this a common prison diet or something?

It was pretty standard in Nazi forced-labour camps, but without the cheese. Some survived.

There is such a variety of cheeses that you would need to be more specific. For instance, some, like a triple cream brie (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/calories/saint-andre-triple-cream-brie-280986249) are almost 50% fat, about 10% protein, and contain few vitamins or minerals. Others, like part-skim mozzerella (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/calories/228985930) are closer to 30% protein, and 25% fat (still lacking in other nutrients). Some cheeses are high in salt, blue cheeses contain active cultures and a more complex (more nutritious) array of compounds. There are also less processed cheeses, like cottage cheese that contain more vitamins than most aged cheeses.

Ultimately, I think one could easily survive a week on this diet, but I don't think it would be pleasant, and there could be some serious health issues if you kept it up for a year...

Unless the individual in question is taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor-based antidepressant -- in which case the tyramine content of aged cheeses would likely induce a hypertensive crisis.

True. I doubt this diet would work well for the lactose intolerant, diabetic or hypoglycemic either...

In 2001 the late George Carlin suggested this diet to American and British soldiers in Tora Bora. The gas the soldiers would produce from this diet, Carlin argued, would smoke out Osama bin Laden and his boys out of the mountain caves.

During the Vietnam War, the Vietcong and North Vietnamese could smell where enemy soldiers (American, South Vietnamese, Australian) trekked because of their diet. Unfortunately, as much as they ripped ass, it had almost no effect on them. It would take more than foul gas and stool to pacify the communists.

lol.... not without the assistance of K9's they didn't -- unless they were right next to an entire platoon of soldiers.
