But surely the principle of doing experimentation is not well understood by anyone.
You seem to think that nobody understands how to do experiments.
That's plainly wrong.

You can not demonstrate reliably any further phenomenon behaviour if your experimental devices itself use the phenomenon you want to study.

OK, say you want to do an experiment to find out about tigers.
According to you, you can't include a tiger in my experiment because that would be "the phenomenon you want to study."

That CAN'T be true! / Discussion split from: Do atoms exist in multiple places at once, 2 places or 1?

Seemingly so, but we've no proof of it.

Please explain that there is no proof that iron atoms give hemoglobin the strength to bind to oxygen in the blood.
[/quote]
No iron atom exists in Haemoglobin.
Iron (II) ions do apparently.
But the evidence is open to re-evaluation.
For example, its possible that this is all a simulation.

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / What is an exponential, and how could you calculate it?

it's much better to model it as an exponential
An exponential is a polynomial.
Not really, no.
x^e is not the same as e^x

Moderator's Note: This was split off from a thread which looked at current through a diode as an exponential function, see: https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=81689.0

Just Chat! / Did anyone else get a silly message from a newbie?
« on: 06/12/2018 19:30:00 »
I just wondered if I was the only member who got a silly message from  "zeroone ".
I'm not sure if it was intended as an insult, a threat or what.

Just Chat! / Speech recognition software- anyone use it?
« on: 22/05/2008 20:55:19 »
OK, I know there's a "computer stuff" section of this site but I'd prefer to leave that for folks who know what they are talking about.
My question is in the title. Does anyone here regularly use speech recognition software as an alternative to typing? I'm asking because my typing isn't that fast but my friends tell me that I can't half talk.

(I'd just like to clafify that, while the voice pattern recognition used as a security feature is important and fascinating stuff, it's not what I'm asking about.)
If anyone has any experience that they can share I'd love to hear it (even if that experience is "I tried them all and they all suck") and I'm sure others might be interested too.
Thanks in advance.
