Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Re: why do a lot of people confuse between interference and diffraction?
« on: 21/01/2023 17:45:55 »
What I understand is diffraction is bending of a single wave of light around an obstacle,
whereas interference is the superimposition of two waves to form one wave.

You can find some detailed differences here: https://dewwool.com/difference-between-diffraction-and-interference/

Famous Scientists, Doctors and Inventors / Re: Who's inventions were the worst?
« on: 14/12/2022 16:23:50 »
I googled up and Thomas Midgley this name came up.

Question of the Week / Re: QotW - 22.09.19 - Do nuclear bombs cause global warming?
« on: 14/12/2022 16:16:59 »
They will definitely. Plus there will be no globe left to cause warming. I mean it would be pointless to focus on global warming in such a situation.

Cells, Microbes & Viruses / Re: Bio Terrorism?

You can probably read through these three research articles:

General Science / Re: Why does Earth's atmosphere have a whiter color near the horizon?
« on: 14/12/2022 16:13:07 »
The light coming from the horizon is far and has passed through so many scattering that it is white or light-Blue.

6
The Environment / Re: Is global warming man-made?
« on: 14/12/2022 16:10:21 »
I feel to most extent, yes.

« on: 14/12/2022 16:07:17 »
Sunglasses!

Question of the Week / Re: QotW - 18.08.02 - Why are non-stick pans non-stick?
« on: 14/12/2022 16:04:08 »
Due to Teflon coating.

Question of the Week / Re: QotW - 22.04.25 - Does a phone battery weigh more after charging it?
« on: 14/12/2022 16:03:44 »
No, I suppose.

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Re: Could a chicken fly?
« on: 14/12/2022 15:54:49 »
Chicken can fly, but that depends on the definition of fly that you use. Because they can fly for a short while, but not long distances.

Technology / Re: Are solar panels worthwhile?
« on: 14/12/2022 15:52:25 »
Yes, they can be worthwhile if you want to set up a society in the forests without any human intervention, then it is one of the only few choices.

12
Physiology & Medicine / Re: How they predict population declines?
« on: 14/12/2022 15:48:29 »
I t is all based on predictions based on the data that we have. But the trend/prediction can and (has been proven) to be possible to change with some Human Will.

13
General Science / Re: How cold does the planet have to get for the oceans to freeze?
« on: 14/12/2022 15:44:02 »
-2 C since the freezing point of sea water is slightly low than that of water due to salt content. But this has to be throughout the entire Earth.

General Science / Re: Is science a religion.........well if not why is it defended as though it were
« on: 14/12/2022 15:41:09 »
No, it is not.

General Science / Re: Is it safe to eat cake that's been frozen for 11 years?
« on: 14/12/2022 15:36:58 »
Maybe you can take a decision
1. after looking at the texture (If it looks normal then fine)
2. Smell (do you smell anything odd?)
3. Do you find any mouldy or any unwated growth on the cake?
4. Was it defrosted once or twice or many times? (If not defrosted then fine.)
5. Was the fridge opened for many times.

General Science / Re: Do You Dream in Monochrome or Colour?
« on: 14/12/2022 15:31:00 »
I can remember some colors, like color of shirt I was wearing, the surroundings, the green grass, blue buildings, etc.

General Science / Re: Do You Dream in Monochrome or Colour?
« on: 14/12/2022 15:30:09 »
I dream in Color.

Question of the Week / Re: QotW - 21.11.28 - Why do ant bites hurt so much?
« on: 04/12/2022 16:30:14 »
It releases formic acid. It is painfull, and if you rub it it spreads.

Chemistry / Re: What is the stability of silver bromide?
« on: 04/12/2022 16:27:44 »
Yes, silver bromide is affected by light. It is generally used to precipitate into silver like here the authors have used AgBr for Ag Nps preparation by UV light(https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2016/tc/c5tc02616d) anyway it is still unstable with visible light. You can try using a aluminum foil to cover the beaker and then proceed. I've personally used aluminum foils while dealing with silver salts!

General Science / Re: Why is gold gold?
« on: 04/12/2022 12:29:24 »
Gold is gold because of the atomic structure within it. In fact gold and other elements have the same electron, nucleon, and proton. It is just the difference in number and configuration. Like gold has 79 protons 118 neutrons and 79 electron. If any other element has this configuration then it becomes gold. If any confusion do let me know.
