Title: ice emits microwaves!

I heard the ice, emits microwave! surely not, if it did would it not just melt?

Everything with a temperature above absolute zero emits electromagnetic radiation of some sort it just so happens that at the temperature at which we normally encounter ice this radiation is predominately in the microwave region

I think the question was about 'excess' microwave radiation.
Water has definite absorbtion bands - hence the 2.5GHz microwave oven.
During a change of state, it would not be unreasonable that it might emit bands of radiation.
And, in reply to paul fr, if it emits energy, it would freeze more (losing energy) not melt (which involves gaining energy).
We need help from someone with actual knowledge. Now that's a novel idea!!
