Title: Is microwave defrosting chicken in its original plastic wrap safe?
Post by: patricia1951 on 21/03/2011 05:08:06
Today I thawed a whole chicken that was still a bit frosty inside in the microwave with the original plastic wrap still on it (cut open a little on one end).  When we ate it, there was a very distinct taste of plastic and I'm wondering if it's not fit to eat at all now?  You hear so much about the dangers of plastic that I am probably going to throw it away, but would like to know of your opinions for future reference.

Thanks so much!

The safest thing to do is dump it. If you cook with a microwave, use glass containers, and make sure the temperature of the meat is high enough to kill all bacteria.
