Title: how do we forget!
Post by: paul.fr on 10/11/2007 20:51:17
i think we remember things because new pathways are created, if this is correct (if), then do we simply destroy pathways somehow, to forget.

I believe when you don't use or think about the thing you forget!                                                                                                            Your brain coats the memory or what are the neurons that hold the memory or the memory with myelin and it gets coated through repetition of this memory and eventually becomes permanent if it has sufficiently been myelinated! LOL Something like that. each time you commit it to memory or see an item it becomes coated and I believe that is what makes a memory either permanent or not.. I may be wrong I can't remember for sure.. something like that!

I don't know that it is destroyed I think it lies there until something brings it back an event  and action a trauma sometimes etc. Then it becomes a bit stronger ...maybe..

I think your dendrites carry the memory to the neuron where it is coated, but I might have the name wrong on the neuron.. LOL GOD its been too many years... LOL
