This thread triggered in my arthritc brain a question I have had for awhile that I will trow out for comments as I really do not know enough highg-power mathmateic incantations to finger this out on my own:

The Universe is expanding and the two fellows at Bell Labs got a Nobel Prize for finding the tempurature of the last energy from the Big Bang was, in the late '50, a little over 3 degrees Kelvin. (Micro-wave radiation I believe was measured directly, T K deduced.)

SO THE POSER - What happens when the temperature of the Universe reaches 0 degrees Kelvin? Does the Universe cease to be? Does the Universe beging to contract? Or does something else happen?

This should provide food for the braniacs! I arn't one of them thar people.

What a great question.

I would hazard an amateurish guess by saying that it will never reach 0 degrees kelvin...OR..if it does..then it will be one very large ice cube !!...which God (if he exists !) will mix with a soda and lemon !!

I am sure you will get answers with some real science behind them soon....I hope  !!...and WELCOME JimBob !

well of course it can never reach 0, first law of thermo dynacmics, there will always be energy in the universe, just as it expadns its streched over a larger area, and thus less energy per area
