Title: How do I purchase bitcoin?
Post by: PmbPhy on 30/06/2018 21:42:51
I only recently heard about this bit coin thing (from "The Big Bang Theory") so I don't know how it works. But I came across something which gives me a need for it. How do I buy bitcoin?

More to the point, having parted with your money, how would you know you had an actual product?

When you spent it + got something.
A bit like all other forms of currency.

bit coin is not a product. Its a form of money. To be precise its a form of electronic cash. Wikipedia refers to it as the worlds first cryptocurrency, i.e.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin
Quote
Bitcoin (₿) is the world's first cryptocurrency, a form of electronic cash.[8]:3[9] It is the first decentralized digital currency: the system was designed to work without a central bank or single administrator.[8]:1[10] Bitcoins are sent from user to user on the peer-to-peer bitcoin network directly, without the need for intermediaries.[8]:4,5 These transactions are verified by network nodes through cryptography and recorded in a public distributed ledger called a blockchain. Bitcoin was invented by an unknown person or group of people using the name Satoshi Nakamoto[11] and released as open-source software in 2009.[12]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptocurrency#Formal_definition
Quote
A cryptocurrency (or crypto currency) is digital asset designed to work as a medium of exchange that uses strong cryptography to secure financial transactions, control the creation of additional units, and verify the transfer of assets.[1][2][3] Cryptocurrency is a kind of digital currency, virtual currency or alternative currency. Cryptocurrencies use decentralized control[4] as opposed to centralized electronic money and central banking systems.[5] The decentralized control of each cryptocurrency works through distributed ledger technology, typically a blockchain, that serves as a public financial transaction database.[6][7]

I'm begging people here NOT to divert this thread about the security or definition of bitcoin and stay on topic of how to get it, please? :)

Very unhelpful. I didn't ask for a website which, if I spent 12 hours reading, I'd know how to buy and use bitcoin. I tried that site and it kept making me do more and more things to own bitcoin. I'm sure that's just plain lovely to you and others but I'd rather have a step to step guide which that link is not. In fact that website sucks.

How would you like it if someone asked you why clocks slow down as their speed increases and ten people responded by suggesting a different SR text to read?

I would say you are being grumpy and  ungrateful sir when people are only tying to help you and answer your question.
You do know bitcoin does't work for everyone, it is like a random gamble?

You could google this also sir instead of blaming people for your own ignorance and being idol.

Nope;. Just responding to what is a very poor response.

This is a perfect example of why I can't stand you. You jump to bogus conclusions in nearly everything you say in this forum. Before I created this thread I spent a good deal of time trying to use Google to find out what I want to do and how to do it. However that information was both unclear and not helpful. THAT'S why I created this thread and THIS is why I keep you in my ignore list. Not one person in this forum can trust what you say on a regular basis so I kill filed you. I snuck a peak to see if you had something useful to say and of course you didn't

As far as physics goes - You no longer have a legitimate excuse to ask a question here since all the information on physics is online. That's the kind of response you just cr@pped out here.

Finally, about the most correct thing you ever said.   Now consider why the main section is not discussing physics.  Anyone can look up the answer, but not everyone can discuss the answer and make suggestions.  The moderators and people who repeat wiki are wasting everyone's time not discussing.

Moderator - Please delete to nonsense and insults posted by thebox. Why on Earth do you guys allow him to stay when the little puke jumps to false conclusions and then insults people. I don't stay at forums with people like that so I may be leaving permanently soon if he can't behave like an adult and stop his sniveling and whining.

Is there anybody actually here who has used bitcoin? IF not then I'm asking in the wrong place. I want to talk to someone with actual working knowledge of it. And I don't have a desire to challenge myself by learning it all by myself with no help. Before I started this thread I tried to learn about how to buy and use them (contrary to the twit thebox thinks) so I didn't come here  with zero knowledge. I have to use it on the 3rd to do something and what that something is is rather personal.

And what is the worst part about it all none of the people who posted here knew how to answer my question and instead posted something I know of but have no interest in and for good reasons.
