Title: Doesn't Boiled Water Have No Oxygen Anyway ? A Tea making Question !

Dearest Tea-ologists,

As a sheepy I of course luff tea !...though..it's the green stuff and the white stuff I'm into nowadays !..no milk of course !!



We're usually told to always use fresh water because pre-boiled water has lost all it's dissolved oxygen which is essential to the brewing process !

Thing is....when ewe boil the water for the first time anyway...doesn't that also deplete the water of it's oxygen content ?


...and ...I've done taste tests with pre-boiled water and fresh boiled water and I can't taste the difference !!..can ewe  ?



so....my question is......Doesn't Freshly Boiled  Water Have No Oxygen Anyway When Making Tea ?

Well, water that's been boiling for any length of time has no oxygen dissolved in it to speak of, but it's all a question of kinetics vs. thermodynamics. That is, although it's not stable for oxygen to be dissolved in boiling water it still takes a little time for all the oxygen to leave.. so water that's been boiled briefly will have more oxygen in it than water kept on the boil or boiled repeatedly.

It's a bit like, say, the difference between having just stepped out of a plane and hitting the ground.. the most stable configuration is having no dissolved oxygen/being at ground level, but it takes a little time to get there.

I'm certainly going to think twice before I have a cup of tea. I had no idea it could be that dangerous.  [:o]

I too am very grateful to Rosy for the first paragraph.....I'm just questioning as to whether I should drink tea when in flight. The consequences for disembarking don't bear thinking about !
