Haggis

I first had it about six years ago whilst on holiday in scotland. We were staying at a little family run hotel a short walk from lochness. At the time i had heard of it but never actually knew what it was. They served it with this creamy kind of sauce and it was seriously beautiful.
Afterwards my father in law told me what it was made out of and i nearly chucked, but its taste was so nice that i had to get over my dislike of what it was made from and in the end i had it every night that we eat at the resturant. [:)]

I liked it so much that the hotel actually made me some to take home back to england. I was so dissapointed when i ran out.
About a year later we went back to scotland and stayed in Edinburgh, the resturant of the hotel that we stayed at also had it on their menu but it wasnt the same, no where near as nice,so we after a bit of persuading by me we drove to the same hotel that we stayed at the year earlier and booked a room for the night , just so i could get my fix.

Like any food the taste is dependent on who the cook is, get someone who knows how to cook it well and it will blow your mind. YUM

Michael, Thanks so much for the reminder...you must have a stomach of steel...I couldn't handle it....of course, I am not into liver either...but I must say I try things once, but won't try Black Pudding..ick!  I don't eat much pig, occasionally sausages...but occasionally...prefer fish, seafood,, and chicken..but haven't ate much since the lasagna for lunch after seeing the pics Neil has posted...hehe....just kidding.  What else have you ate that will make the rest of us nearly croak Michael?  LOL

This looks like it, but the way Michael described it they had a cream sauce..wooo, ick!  The taste is undesirable...but people know I will try things once and enjoy my reaction no matter where I travel too,..ick...

I completely agree with the Michael man about the better cooking in a small family run hotel. In my experience it is always far superior....it's like good old fashioned home cooking...and usually lots of it too.

I would certainly (like La Loretta) try everything at least once....perhaps twice if the first was cooked badly....

Michael, I wonder if the sauce was some kind of porridge or bread sauce

For the sake of not causing further tummy upset I will not post the picture I found here in Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haggis ...it's out of focus and still looks truly disturbing !!!

it's the second one down displaying the contents.

This is horrible sounding too...ick!  I don't like mars anyway, but fried??? I have had fried icecream, pretty good with a thin batter coating, very nice, plantain, not banannas??  Never had those, Pickles, are interesting, jalepeno stuffed with crab fried is good...but never pineapple, hmmm, may have to try that one...

I love these chat sites.  Its just like talking to my best friend.  You start a topic and before you know it where all on a different page!

Haggis - not on your life, but in saying that when you cook a roast and the yummy black burnt bit in the pan just needs to be yours, isn't that just cooked blood?

I love the little pig story too.  Maybe it is just simply, no matter what path you take or how long it takes, you will always end up at that place you are meant to be.

Our Destiny!

Jam what a nice prospective on things...yes, roast is cooked and blood is in it, but...not just that...there are many things with blood in it, but not the main dish with it...do you like blood pudding?  Maybe you have an interesting dish you can share with us...besides I have never been in Austrailia, but will go one day as sweetie's sister lives in Victoria, where are you at?

E+R=O
Events (the stuff of life) plus our Reactions (how we decide to react) equals the Outcome we get.

Each little pig was faced with and event (having to be responsible for themselves). In the end we only have control over our reactions. But this is our power. We can always effect the outcome by how we react.

I can not think of any thing that would make your stomach turn that's served in Aus that probably didn't originate from the UK.  However, do you eat your national treasures?  Kangaroo cooked right can be quite nice!
