Title: Are these roll clouds?
Post by: arrivaltoearth on 04/07/2017 09:40:49
I photographed these clouds and my relative said that they are called roll clouds but I can't find any similar pictures on the internet. Do you agree that is their proper name?

Looks more like a shelf cloud which is another type of Arcus cloud. Difficult to tell from this partial of the formation, but look at the link and see if this is more like what you saw, roll clouds are further down page and very distinctive.

Good grief, those pictures are amazing! Thank you for posting them; those clouds are incredible. Was that the storm from hell brewing?

There was a severe rainstorm brewing but it lasted only a couple hours. The arcus clouds seem to match better. I never heard of 'arcus' before so thanks for the tip! A couple more pictures with the tail and a different angle.
