Title: Any tips for preggy sickness ?...please !!
Post by: neilep on 15/01/2005 02:48:51
Greetings Lovely People,

Would appreciate very much so any advice.

Wifey is preggy....again !!....and just like she was when pregnant with our other children, she is suffering terrible sickness every day, and even worse at night.....Is there anything you wonderful lovely people of medical orientated niceness can advise that she take to alleviate it ?.....Any medication too that we can ask the doctor to prescribe ?.....She has it real bad and her life is a misery !!..We want to wait a while before we release this info to family as she's only 13 weeks, and we want to delay till after her scan next week, but if we can't get this sickness under control they will become suspicious.

Thanking you in advance

Congrats. on the pregnancy, but agree the nausea is grim!

Not qualified to advise on prescription medicines, but I found ginger in all its forms a great help - ginger biscuits (cookies) to nibble first thing in the morning before getting out of bed, and a chunk of ginger to chew on during the day.

Also it seems to help to have lots of small meals, and always to keep something in the stomach, if possible!

Did your wife have the nausea all the way through previous pregnancies?  I only ask because it usually seems to settle after the first trimester, and I guess you are about at that stage by now.

Good luck!

Judith

Hi Judith,

Thanks you so much for your kind response and many thanks for your congrats too.

Wifey hates ginger (as do I ) but loves ginger cookies, so we’ll definitely give that a try. And the small but often meals , is something she has not tried before, so, we’ll give that a go too.

This is our fourth !! and with each pregnancy she has always suffered with terrible nausea all the way through to delivery and then a few days afterwards too. It really is a total misery for her and makes her life full of despair.

So your tips are greatly appreciated, thanks again

Neil

They had a wonder drug in the 60's called thalidamide (sp?) that relieved morning sickness. I wouldn't recommend it, though. Made the babies come out funny looking. Does your wife change her diet during pregnancy? Maybe it's the kippers on toast with strawberry jam that's causing the problem, or the ice cream and pork.

Congratulations!  Two things help, I am told, that are natural.  Vitamin B supplement and soda crackers, 2 or 3 eaten first thing upon awakening, before even getting out of bed.  Unfortunately, most of that is hormone related and just has to run it's course.  #4 penile?  Whew!

You're not telling your family, but you are telling us? Gee, Neil, I feel... privileged. Did you notice at the wedding how everybody congratulated you, and wished the Mrs. "good luck"? I think morning sickness is why. My wife was sick the whole 9 months with the last one, and I think that is why she was early. I'm afraid I have no cure for this, but I can suggest Alka-Seltzer for a hangover.

Thanks everybody for your welcome advice, it's all been taken on board, digested and then, well, in wifeys case, brought up again !! We had a dating scan yesterday (wednesday 19th) and she is in fact now 12 weeks and 4 days, delivery will be July 30th, I wanted to pay the extra pound for gift wrapping but they don't offer this service !!

Ginger (as Judith mentioned) has been brought to my attention a few times so despite not liking it, wifey is going to investigate that too.

NANCY: Thanks Nancy, the Vitamin B and soda crackers in particular are new to me so I'll add that to my list of things for wifey to get when she (or I) are at the pharmacy/chemist/health store/drug store (delete as appropriate which applies to your geography)...

Yep Number 4, unplanned and whilst on the pill !!!...perhaps wifey should have been taken them too, still, at least I'll be able to breast feed now :-)

GSMOLLIN: I'll do my best to start drinking purely so that I can experience the relief Alka-Seltzer affords me, and yes, I did notice that at our wedding how I was congratulated and wifey was prescribed medication !!!,  and in addition, how the whole wedding day was ' wifey's ' day, and how everything to do with the birth of our children is wifey's special time....do you detect some bitterness there ?....I think it's just me, but sometimes I feel the husband/father become just ancillary !!...and the reason why I've told you guys first ?...well, you're my family too.

ROBERTH: Thanks, your was the best advice !!!!!! (smirk), I never thought about the diet, perhaps it is the pickled egg and onion milkshakes too eh ?

THANKS EVERYBODY :-)...I'll let you know if we combat it, your suggestions have been invaluable.
