I look at the brave new world of quantum physics and increasingly it would appear to me (not a scientist) that the doors have been flung open and any sort of explanation or theory surrounding the atomic scale is now given serious credence no matter how ridiculous as long as the mathematics work.
Well why hasn't the idea that time is an illusion granted the same acceptance? I have a good friend who holds a phd in astrophysics remark that if you remove time from Einstein's field theory it gives a perfect proof.
This would also explain why in the quantum world, we cannot tie down an individual atom to a particular place, and also why it appears everywhere and nowhere at the same time. If time appears only as a result of observation then it makes more sense to me why there are no definates in the quantum world, only probability.
I know this is beyond human comprehension as we all know that straight line time exists in our world, however if you think about something like high speed cameras, which are now capable of over 10,000 FPS, what is the limit? 100,000FPS? a million FPS? A billion? Theoretically it could be infinate, so how is anything able move considering it would have to pass through ALL known positions to get from A to B? If time were an illusion we need only see snapshots of an object moving, so it wouldn't need to occupy every single position towards its destination.
It runs contrary to what I experience in my daily life but this seems a more logical and satisfactory layman explanation than the revised string theory or any of the new vogue of superficially insane hypothesis quantum physicists are putting forth.
Would be nice for some debate on this, as long as it doesn't involve complicated maths :)

Having studied quantum mechanics to a great extent I can assure that it only appears that way and perhaps to not many people and to no quantum physicist that I know of.

Because time is not an illusion but the phenomena corresponding to changes in he state of the universe. Since such changes do occur then time does exist.

Just because someone has a PhD in astrophysics it doesn’t mean that they know general relativity. You can’t remove time from Einstein’s field equations and still have an equation that describes gravity correctly.
Don’t believe everything that you hear. When someone makes outrageous claims like that ask for proof.
