Hello, my name is Nann, from California, the USA.  

You have a very nice forum here.  Already I'm interested in a great many topics on the board.  

I write science fiction for fun, and to do that well requires some study of the real sciences, the latest scientific hypotheses, especially cosmology, so I am very interested in science theory.  

I signed up here some time ago, am glad to have found the forum, and will start posting once I get a chance to look at things.

Wow, so many welcomes, I'm honored!  Thanks Gaia, Neilep, Caroline, Another Someone, Loretta, and Karen.  Hope I haven't left anyone out.  Meeting new people on new forums is great, but have to get used to the names and who everybody is ...

I am used to forums already.  I divide my time between an Australian discussion forum where I'm an admin (see bio and homepage in my  profile) and writing a science fiction novel, which I hope to submit to a sci-fi publisher when the rewrite is good enough ...

Not that I haven't done dozens of rewrites of parts of the novel as it is over a period of a year or so ... writing hard sci-fi needs an underlying knowledge of real science, or rather just enough to make the plot and narrative seem authentic.  There's the fictitious location (in this case an entire planetary system I've designed, with the help of standard books on the stats sci-fi writers use) and then there is the actual story with plot and fun characters in the foreground ...

It's a lot of work, but great fun to do.  This is my first serious attempt at a full length novel, and I don't write short stories, or maybe I would share some excerpts sometime.  As for excerpts from the manuscript I need to do some more work on it first ... maybe later ... thanks for asking!  

Thank you all for your warm welcome.  You have a terrific forum here, and I have a lot of reading to do ... better get started ... haha

Yes it is gorgeous.. I love it here, it is a very desireable area to live... City folke come in flocks to live here , but leave after a while as ther is nothing for them to do!! We live here because of its rural lifestyles and culture, slow paced and laid back.. They always want to change it when they move here, they would be happy wall to wall houses and stores and night life and city stuff.. I am definitely a country girl.. Although I would like to travel and see the cities as I think they are beautiful in their own right! I also love people so this would be great!  I love it here as the weather is not extreme either direction usually! Maybe will see you sometime!

Hi Karen again!

You are so fortunate to live in a rural area.  I'm envious.  I live in a well-known university town, wall to wall stores and the campus two blocks from my apartment building, students everywhere, and the traffic is appalling.  Still, it's convenient, buses every couple of minutes, you don't have to have a car to get just about anywhere you want.  But I would love the peace and quiet and woodsy beauty of a place like Humbolt.  Lucky girl!

Arcata is a college Town as well as Eureka, You can pretty much walk anyplace you need to go if you are there. I live just outside of Arcata, northeast In Fieldbrook, 4 miles from Blue lake and 7 miles from Arcata, 7 miles from Mckinleyville and 14 miles from Eureka. I do love it here, but want to see the world someday! At least parts of it if possible!
