Hand Washing

I've read of different hand washing techniques, soap application versus plain water, but I've never read of the one I use.
When I use liquid soap or foam hand cleanser I apply it directly to my dry hands, scrub my hands so that the cleanser is smeared over the entire surface, then I rinse it off. It takes less water, seems like it provides maximum cleanser concentration, and my hands feel very clean afterward.
Any ideas, data, or opinions on this? I think at least a few medical professionals subscribe to this site.

Standard practice in kitchens, garages and IIRC operating theaters - indeed anywhere that the principal contaminant is greasy.
Water first if your hands are muddy or dusty - remove the loose dirt rather the grind it in with the detergent.

Is this reply based on any evidence or just your personal opinion?

A lifetime's experience, including mechanical engineering, sterile clinical physics, commercial baking, gardening, and working as a detergent chemist, interspersed with hosing down muddy kids and dogs that like to roll in diesel puddles when there's no fox poo around.
Also studying the instructions on the tin and various health and safety posters.

So, nobody has any evidence-based responses? I've read about tests for germs on hands after washing with water-only versus water and soap but never for this technique. I gather nobody has tested this regime.
