Title: Who were the rudest people you have met?
Post by: Exodus on 30/06/2004 09:24:25
Not wanting to cause a war on here or anything (so light banter only please! [;)]) But i just wondered which country you have visited and felt the people were really rude.

I'm afraid my prize goes to Austria... maybe it was a one off bad experience...

If we get repetitions from people then maybe we can have a league table lol! [;)] ( i have to say though, that i find a lot of english people quite rude as well!)

Having been to Bolivia once, I would have to say the US.  Especially old people from New York who live in Florida.  They have to be the worst.

Americans... definately Americans!!! fools, infidel fools! Keeping Saddam like that, and an extra point, at least give saddam some 'just for men' for his beard, you cant let such a glorious leader appear on television in such a state!

I on the other hand, have grey highlights in my beard... was thinking of a purple rinse next. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

catch me if you can!

Satan !!...now there's a bad boy. He's rather rude though I do respect his ability to eat very very very hot curry.

Bin, I think a rinse and perhaps a mohican with pink tips and glitter would be nice, and that's just the hair on your bum.

I am GOD..You are Not..I don't exist !!

I met a right snotty cow the other day when I was walking the dog. She lives down the bottom of our road and had just driven up to her house and got out of her stupid little shiney city car (we live in the country), when Einstein our dog who is very friendly started wagging his tail and went over and sniffed her. She looked at him like he was a piece of poo on her high heels, walked round him and marched into her house without evening looking at me or smiling or anything. That's Surrey for you. A few days later when walking Einstein he needed a piss.....and decided to do it against her bin. They don't call him Einstein for nothing.[:D]

Old people! They judge young people too much.
I was sat in the vets about 18 months ago with my pet cuddles a rescued Royal python in what looked like a giant tool box with holes drilled in the top and these two old ladies with there cats sat on there laps started tutting at me telling me I was cruel for keeping animals in a "big black box". So I opened the lid and took cuddles out and put him on my lap, they nearly fainted and then continued to moan to each other about tropical pets and how they should be illegal! I was rehabilitating that python as who ever owned it had housed it incorrectly with a 100 watt house hold light bulb and it had 50% burns. I had spent over a month feeding it with a syringe and bathing it every 4 hours day and night. It was going to the vets for a check up on its healed burns and was in a dark box to reduce stress whilst travelling. Cuddles made a full recovery and now lives in an extremely large properly heated tank in my front room and is used in talks on reptiles at local schools and youth groups. She really enjoys peoples company.

Hey alex thats really cool of you to care about that snake and nurse it back to health, nice story. The fact is some of these old people are just as bad with abusing their pets without even realising it!! Don't know if you have noticed it but most old people's dogs/cats are obese! they overfeed them which in my opinion is just as bad as they are increasing the  chances of an early death, what do other people think?
Title: Re: Who were the rudest people you have met?
Post by: Claire on 07/07/2004 10:54:59
Yeh sometimes that's true. they can't resist giving them an ickle bit of cweemy weemy that's left over and before you know it the cat has got a stomach like a bowling ball. I also think its cruel when people have cats and don't let them out the house cos they are scared something will happen to them. If you live next to a motorway, you shouldn't have a cat full stop.

Actually the rudest people I ever met was when I was working as a bar maid at Epsom race course in the members and trainers area. Horrible, horrible people, treated me like scum. There was one particular woman who was openly rude to a barmaid who had never opened a champagne bottle before (well she was only 18). Mind you, we got amusement from the fact that despite having spent hundreds on her designer outfit the cow still looked fat in it and you could see her cellulite. Ha. That was the first and only time I did that job!

hmmmm...it was no one you know, just some arsehole who bought a cheap turntable and amplifier and speakers (about £500) and became extremely abusive over the phone when he could not get it working.....on my own time, I went over to his flat because he refused to bring it back to the store, and the reason why he could not get any sound from his turntable was because he had not connected his speakers to the amplifier !!!!! and instead of looking embarassed and apologising for not realising what a silly mistake he had made, he continued to abuse the fact that we had not told him to connect his speakers !!!!, (which incidentally he saw me do as I demonstrated it to him)...he continued to be derisery in nature and demanded his money back and then became quite rude and made personal comments.........I didn't give him his money back and banned him from the store !!...the stupid aresehole !!.....and he kept on saying that he lived in the same apartment block as 'The Pet Shop Boys'.....as if that merited that I should get on my knees and bow in reverence.......big bloody deal !!!

every one is rude to people now and again and usually for good reason. i had a doorstep sales person who i was very rude to. They rang the bell asking if i wanted new doors and windows. I explained that I rented the property so could not change the doors/windows. He then continued to tell me about how i could pay for the front and get the back free. I again told him that I rented the property. He than asked if he should come in and measure the doors and windows or do it from the outside. At this point I shut and locked the door and he still stood at the door talking through it! After about 5 minutes of him talking through the door I opened it, told him he was an idiot and should be sacked, that he had no common sence and was as thick as 2 short planks. I told him to go away or I would call the police. He then went. Although I was rude to him it was the only way to get rid of him!

That really bugs me when I can't understand the person. I had a problem with my mobile phone and called the 0845 number for customer services (I now know the calls get sent to India) I was on the phone for over an hour just giving the lady my details. I had to spell every word to her! She asked which shop I had got the phone from so I told her KJC, she even asked me how to spell KJC! Oh and when I told her my address she asked me how to spell Road!!!

I think people who are rude lack communication skills (including me when I'm rude), and/or they are not aware of their desired outcome.  Neil, the fellow you mentioned may have been told by someone whose opinion he valued that he was stupid.  So then he gets himself into a situation where that belief is reinforced, but he doesn't want to feel stupid, so he goes through contortions to be "right".  Then again some people just choose to be ignorant assholes.
Title: Re: Who were the rudest people you have met?
Post by: neilep on 16/08/2004 02:39:12
...agree with all you say Donnah, he was clearly being defensive and did not want to admit his sillyness to cover up the trouble I had gone to too........another case similar in nature but with a completely different attitude was a customer who could get no sound from his tape deck....I went over to his place, and I immediately saw the problem.....he did not select the tape deck switch on his amplifier !!..he was most embarassed and apologised, even offered me a £10 tip which I refused....suffice to say he ate humble pie and has subsequently become a repeat customer.

I find that most people can be nice about it when you point out some really stupid thing they've done, as long as you are nice about it and don't make them out to be stupid overall.  I know I've had my moments!

...absolutely John, I see remaining calm and collected during a verbal onslaught one way to rise above and show maturity and proffesionalism, but like you, there have been moments too...when people start getting too abusive and making personal remarks ( and one can almost sense the frustration in them ) then you have every right to act appropriately.

Me and Rich were in Boots the other week. The lady put my items through the till and I handed her my Boots card asking her whether I had enough points on it to cover the transaction. She snottily said 'well actually we usually ask people to ask us that BEFORE we scan the items'.

I'm sorry? Did she ask me to ask that before she scanned them? NO!
Was there a sign on the wall telling me to ask her before
           she scanned them? NO!
Am I supposed to have a crystal ball to consult?Evidently!

GRRR....However we restrained ourselves and left.

The rudest people ive met were in Canada, must have been an off day because I swear all of them were giving me glares!  I was visiting some of my relatives up there, and we took a day trip to umm Leron(sp?) theme park.  I was at the mcdonalds in the park and I wasnt eating at the moment and some older guy made a remark about how I should leave if I'm not eating.  there pennies are really shiney though!

The rudest people I've ever met are the self-important jumped up little oiks who work as US CUSTOMS OFFICERS !

"do you mind, SIR (which fake emphasis), you're nearly 0.25mm over the yellow line. Would you mind moving back."

"Well, actually, my luggage is very heavy and as you are currently looking at my documents I don't think it makes that much difference does it?"

"I'm sorry (with fake respect)"

"Don't be sorry, I quite understand"

"No, SIR, I've asked you to move back"..."And you've failed to fill in this box on the immigration form that specifically asks how many peas you had with your lunch on the plane - can you go back, complete the form, and STAND IN LINE again once you're done"

I have travelled throughout most of Europe. I found with the exception of Romania and Hungary that most east European folk could be regarded as rude. In western / northern Europe the Poles, French and English are extremely rude.
The Germans are the politest and the Scottish and Irish are the friendliest.
In the Mediterranean most people seem to have the same happy go lucky attitude no matter what flag they live under. Americans are very amiable. But the people and country I love most are the Indians and India.
