How was the printing press invented, and when, please someone ?

In 1440 Johann Gutenberg of Strasbourg, Germany used foundry-cast metal characters to create movable type. He's also credited with inventing the printing press and ink specifically for use with his movable type. However, the Koreans had used metal type about 300 years earlier and the Chinese used clay characters 400 years before Gutenberg.

That's interesting because for some reason I had "William Caxton" in my mind as the answer to this question - who was he then ?

The Chinese invented it, I remember learning about this is in primary school however I couldn't remember the name of that person; even if I could it will be in Chinese anyway, I don't know how it is translated.

I always thought that idea originated with Gutenberg. I was thinking, maybe he got the credit because the metal letters were more durable. But then the Koreans beat him to that. What the hell? Do you think he just had a better press agent?

Sorry it's wrong, Cai Loung is the first Chinese who invented the method of making paper. The guy for printing press is called Bi Shung.

Was the guy who invented tea called Lap San Sou Shong ?

The krauts built the first movable type printing press.
That means that if you want to print say the bible you just pull out all the letters you need and arrange them on a grid and then PRESS. This was important as it was possible to reuse the metal letters.

Interestingly, these days, if a woman is clearly "in charge" in a relationship we say she "wears the trousers".
What terms did people use to describe a dominant / bossy woman before women wore trousers ? [;)]

It's interesting how when a man is in charge he is labeled as assertive but when a woman is the dominant one she's called bossy.

If i become "assertive" with my wife,she just smiles and says "now,now, dear" then burns my dinners for a week,wont let me read my "Tindale"and hides my kilt.
Does anyone know who Tindale was ?.
