The latest version of windows 10 incorporates anti virus software, is this adequate or is additional software advisable ?
I have Malware bytes (which I mostly keep switched off) and if in any doubt run "Exterminate it" but I don't find any malware.

The latest version of windows 10 incorporates anti virus software, is this adequate ...
There are better anti-virus programs ...
https://www.tomsguide.com/us/windows-defender,review-2209.html
but they will use more computer resources : slowing-down other programs running, to some extent.
is additional software advisable ?
If you have two anti-virus programs running simultaneously they can fight one another and bog-down your machine.
... I don't find any malware.
There is a dummy-virus you can use to check your anti-virus is working ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EICAR_test_file

An antivirus program is a necessity, to me, not just for me but for our company, only 60 computers, only maybe 5 issues in the last 15 years, but the issues were bad enough to require a computer rebuild and restore data to hosed computers from backup.

These intruders never sleep so yeah, you'll need a better one sooner or later.

I'd definitely recommend a decent anti-virus. There are a few out there. But it won't save you if you don't apply common sense as well.

Nowadays, viruses are a minimal treat compared to hackers.
But you can't go wrong with a antivirus. I always used Avast and never even noticed that it was there.

The windows 10 built in antivirus destroys the test virus before I have time to study it !

I always used ESET NOD. you must take precautions to avoid the malicious and suspicious program to get entered into the system. But, you actually know the source and path of virus to get infected, so I think a good antivirus software solution is necessary to enjoy risk-free browsing.

Being a member of Cambridge University, I have always used the free-for-staff McAfee together with ZoneAlarm as my firewall.
The pair seem to play nicely enough together, but I recent ran into difficulties with McAfee blocking certain windows upgrades, so I removed it.
I've used Malwarebytes from time to time to sterilise my systems from malware, and Spybot search and destroy too.
I will give avast a try to see what it's like.

I like to view Sky sports events and have a delicate balancing act between Windows built anti virus and Malwarebytes having to get the exclusions right on both

Is an additional anti-virus required with Windows 10?
Windows 10 brings touch-screens to the Windows laptop/desktop environment.
Especially for computers used by many people, I recommend regular use of alcohol wipes ;)

Which antivirus are you using now ?
