Title: Popping Corn with Cellphones - Danger ! Danger !.
Post by: NobodySavedMe on 11/06/2008 23:52:45
We finally have the compelling evidence of how dangerous cellphones are as revealed in the below 3 different videos on youtube which show 4 cellphones popping corn right in front of your eyes.

That's right folks dangerous radiation is strong enough to pop corn.

This proves that cellphones cause tumours and cancer.

The videos are by the French race,Chinese race and Unknown race and come from 3 different continents.

Watch and Weep and remember what is happening to your brain every time you use a cellphone to tell your boyfriend how much you spewed after drinking too much.

http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=ju5yIFu4yY8&feature=related

Basically, you're hitting the popcorn with the same kind of waves that a microwave uses, which is actually really scary. Now, while a microwave oven is using way more power than a cellphone, also remember that the microwave is cooking (normally) a lot more than 3 or 4 kernels, and that the kernels are closer to the source of the power in the case of the cellphones than in the microwave, and wave power drops off sharply with distance. Now imagine a small microwave exposed oven next to your brain as you make a call.

I urge everyone to show these videos to your family and friends and spread the word about how dangerous these cell phones really are before these videos get suppressed by cell phone makers.I strongly urge you to save the videos to your hard drive and email/bluetooth them to your network friends as corporate companies will try to get them suppressed.

I mean if 4 phones can pop corn then just think of the damage 1 phone is doing to your brain from the microwave radiation.

But the other hoax videos showing mobile phones allegedly cooking an egg are still up on youtube, and have been for years.  Why are you so paranoid?  It's your paranoia that led to you falling for this hoax, and then posting these videos with ridiculous comments like:

Quote
This proves that cellphones cause tumours and cancer.

When it clearly does nothing of the sort.  If it were real, it would show that mobile phones induce local warming, not cancer.  But it's not real, so it proves nothing.

I mean, surely you would notice that lots of people have used 'phones for ages and their brains have not been cooked.

I see you are allied to the makers of these cell phones.

You are totally wrong again.A corn kernal is solid and heat will cause moisture to expand and pop it where as the human brain is 10000 times bigger and porous/spongy to moisture and the heat is spread over a larger volume of over 10000 times, hence it does not explode but you learn about it when a MRI scan reveals a deadly tumour and you only have 6 months left to live.

The reason popcorn 'pops' because the microwaves heat the water, which eventually leads to the denaturing of proteins in the seed.  It's not the 'expansion of the water'.  The fact that you don't understand the science suggests that you should rethink your opinions.  Scare mongering about cancer is an unpleasant thing to do.

If all this is true, I wonder why they don't run microwave ovens off AAA batteries. There is clearly no significant energy involved with cooking.

If this is true can someone please do the maths as to whether it's cheaper to make popcorn this way instead of the microwave oven ! ?

...hmmm...four phones ringing four phones plus quantity of popcorn = cheaper than M'waving them or not ?

I'd like to know before Christmas please because if it is cheaper .....(but I can only make one or two popcorns at a time)........ then I need to start now for New Years Eve .

Well, if it's on youtube...

Have you tried replicating the results yourself? For such a simple experiment it may be better to have conducted this yourself and then posted/ed your own results. Are you willing to do that?

If you look up cardosystems... guess what it is.. it's a provider of bluetooth headsets... I am feeling there may be a bit of a conspiracy here, but probably more about selling bluetooth headsets and less by the phone companies...!

The dangers have been well known since at least 1998. In that year, Dr. George Carlo released the results of a massive research project that had been funded by the cell phone industry itself in an attempt to downplay cancer fears. To the industry’s dismay -- and also to their surprise, since they selected him assuming he was an industry shill, rather than the honest scientist he proved to be -- he came to the exact opposite conclusion from the one they were hoping for. His results included findings of:

    * A nearly 300 percent increase in the incidence of genetic damage when human blood cells were exposed to radiation in the cellular frequency band

    * A significant increase in cell phone users’ risk of brain tumors at the brain’s outer edge, on whichever side the cell phone was held most often

    * A 60 percent greater chance of acoustic neuromas, a tumor affecting the nerve that controls hearing, among people who had used cell phones for six years or more

    * A higher rate of brain cancer deaths among handheld mobile phone users than among car phone users (car phones are mounted on the dashboard rather than held next to your head)

These findings, which came well over a decade after cell phones were first introduced (before that there was no safety research at all), caused a shake-up in the scientific world. Soon, many more scientists confirmed Dr. Carlo’s findings.

In 2000, Swedish researchers found that cell phone users were almost two and a half times more likely to develop tumors near where they held their cell phone antenna than in any other portion of their brain. Similar studies were conducted in subsequent years on ever-larger groups of people, always with the same result.

An Italian study in 2002 found that radio waves caused leukemia cells to replicate ferociously after long exposure. In 2004, the massive REFLEX report on DNA damage from radio waves found that cells exposed to electromagnetic fields similar to those of cell phones showed a significant increase in single and double-strand DNA breaks. If I wanted to, I could list a mountain of research studies all pointing to the same conclusion -- exposure to cell phone radiation can cause brain cancer.

The Industry Strikes Back.

The cell phone industry, of course, has long since corrected the “mistake” it made with Dr. Carlo, and funded a number of studies purporting to prove that cell phones are safe. For example, in 2006, they made sure headlines blared reports that an epidemiological study had “proven” cell phones can’t cause cancer.

However, a cursory reading of the study shows that it excluded heavy cell phone users from consideration, failed to differentiate between frequent use of cell phones and almost no use, and declared an improbably low rate of overall cancer that contradicts known statistics. After all that, it proudly concluded that it had found no increased risk for cell phone use. Well, no wonder.

Don’t be fooled by their lies. Holding a cell phone next to your head is as foolish as drinking a bottle of pesticide.
Even if you manage to avoid brain cancer, you may find yourself faced with other health problems both major and minor, such as headaches and dizziness, Alzheimer’s disease, autism and even impotence.

The safety of cell phones has been brought into question once again by research that suggests radio waves from the devices could promote the growth of tumors. Paradoxically, the study suggests that the radiation makes tumors grow more aggressively by initially killing off cancer cells.

Cell Biologist Fiorenzo Marinelli and his team at the National Research Council in Bologna, Italy, decided to investigate whether radio waves had any effect on leukemia cells after previous studies indicated that the disease might be more common among mobile phone users. The life cycle of leukemia cells is well understood, making it relatively easy to spot changes in behavior.

The team exposed leukemia cells in the lab to 900-megahertz radio waves at a power level of 1 milliwatt and then looked at the activity of a gene that triggers cell suicide. Many European mobile networks operate at 900 megahertz, and maximum power outputs are typically 2 watts, although they regularly use only one-tenth of this power.

After 24 hours of continuous exposure to the radio waves, the suicide genes were turned on in far more leukemia cells than in a control population that had not been exposed. What is more, 20 percent more exposed cells had died than in the controls.

But after 48 hours exposure, the apparently lethal effect of the radiation went into reverse. Rather than more cells dying, Marinelli found that a survival mechanism kicked in. Three genes that trigger cells to multiply were turned on in a high proportion of the surviving cells, making them replicate ferociously. The cancer, although briefly beaten back, had become more aggressive.

DNA damage?

Well done, you copied and pasted that section very well.  However, I think everyone here at the Naked Scientists Forum would like to see references to some of the studies you mention.  Please link to them here so we can all read and understand the many peer-reviewed papers you yourself have read.  This way, we can go to source and don't have to rely on the interpretation you found online.

I have read papers where they suggest a mechanism by which exposure could lead to damage which could lead to cancer, and I have seen epidemiological papers where they show that the cancer risk is not significantly raised for people who have been using mobile phones for up to 10 years.

Obviously, we should have an open mind about this as mobile phones haven't been around for very long just yet, and we could see a link in the future.  However, the certainty with which you state your 'proof' (real science contains caveats) and that you have shown that you often do not understand the science involved, coupled with the fact that you have shown a strong willingness to fall for propaganda (in this case, viral marketing), will call into question anything you say.

On a different note, does it not occur to you that if the mobile phone industry knew that using a mobile phone posed health risks, they would be clambering over each other to produce a 'safe' phone?  Or a 'safe' headset that you could use?  Imagine the good PR and market share they would get from doing this, not to mention that this course of action could help protect them from future law suits.

Thanks. Someone is giving me an extra blue tooth headset they have and I'm going to test it with my EMF meter. I used my EMF meter on my cellphone and it's scary radiation. If the bluetooth is less, I'll use that. If not, then I'll just keep going with the cellphone.

I'm into death metal, speed metal, thrash metal, you name it. I have a set of headphones I always use. There's a band called Origin, a death metal band that basically uses song titles that refer to the universe and whatnot. It's pretty cool. When I listen to them, I have to blast it!!! What I noticed about the headphones is they pulse EMF. As the volume changes, so does the EMF. I'm going to get a set of LOW EMF headphones. They cost almost $300, but it will beat all the radiation exposure somewhat.

All I can say is when I'm outside, in the woods, on a roof, by the water, I feel relaxed. Whenever I step inside, I get tense. I never knew what it was, but I think it's the EMF fields. Some people are just more sensitive to it than others.

Last week, three prominent neurosurgeons told CNN interviewer Larry King that they did not hold cell phones next to their ears. Dr. Keith Black, Dr. Vini Khurana, and CNN’s chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta all maintained that the practice could be unsafe.

Along with Senator Edward M. Kennedy’s recent diagnosis of a glioma, a type of tumor that critics have long associated with cell phone use, the doctors’ remarks have helped reignite the debate about cell phones and cancer.

Just got a bluetooth, now I'm reading that blue tooths are more viscious than cellphones. I notice when I use a cellphone, I get earaches. So far, my bluetooth isn't causing an earache. I'll have to whip out my EMF meter to really get the truth, because I feel, if the bluetooth is always on my ear, versus the cellphone just being there sometimes, I might be getting more harmful exposure. If the EMF is high all the time, then I'll just take it back, if it only emits EMF when in use(talking), then I have nothing to worry about since I don't use my phone much, but work a job that broke two of my cellphones so far.
