Title: Can science help combat stigma against Counterculture Art?
Post by: augeias03 on 21/01/2019 21:24:52
Hi.

I would like to ask about a philosophical problem that I have been trying to solve for several years.

The problem is of how to find a rational argument, or a scientific argument that would convince most religious people that it is impossible for some heavy metal singers to have made a pact with the Devil, so that their music can't be a door to entrance of evil spirits.

That would stop the censorship and stigmatization suffered by many heavy metal masterpieces. A law that prohibits stigmatizing them on christian websites could be approved.

I have researched in SCICOP publications, P.E.A.R., S.R.I., Ordo Templi Orientis websites, catholic pages, catholic books on demonology, etc.

Thanks

The people who believe in things like a  "pact with the devil" are not generally susceptible to rational argument.
That's going to make things very difficult.

Al we can do is try to explain rational thought and hope it sinks in.

Are you saying that unfortunately, religious people who are also well educated in science, will continue to teach their children that this music is satanic? And that science can do nothing to stop the media demonization, the defamation of these artists, many of them true geniuses of music?

If it didn't offend somebody, it wouldn't sell! That's the whole point of counterculture, surely?

Where would Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez,  et al be if the world was run by liberal pacifists?

It would perhaps be an antinomy, ...
Following the logic of falsifiability; science can't prove that demons don't exist, but neither can prove that they exist.

Is it not correct that as the satanic rock bands ( who have set themselves up on the churches satan probably for shock value) are satanic, and are getting exactly what they deserve and expected. What did they expect, the vicar to start drawing pentagrams ?

It is very likely that in the secret ceremonies of Satanism demons are invoked by their names.

There is a modern version of an ancient manuscript called The Book of the Secret Magic of Abramelin, written by Aleister Crowley, in which there is a list of entities of the demonic world (as they call it), to which they invoke.

The complete book can be read in Thelemapedia. You can learn there about other entities of higher hierarchy as Aiwass, Baphomet.

Since they are secret societies and very hermetic. How could you know which musicians belong?

I made a mistake. Samuel McGregor Mathers is the author. Crowley recommends this book as an essential part of a magickal library.

No.
It is very unlikely that demons are actually invoked at all.
