Title: PDL dental implant
Post by: pandey_23ajay on 29/06/2013 19:02:11
PDL- Dental implant- patent 430/DEL/2013

Abstract- Dental implant which replaces missing tooth consists of crown, abutment, abutment screw, and titanium implant.
Screw of dental implant is laminated by plastic material which acts as shock absorber while chewing and biting, like virtual periodontal ligament. This reduces masticatory forces directly acting on bone leading to less bone resorption and increased implant life. Detailed study of polyurethane plastic material has been done and is attached.

Description:

TECHNICAL FIELD
This invention relates to dental implant devices and, more particularly, to screw-type dental implant systems.
BACKGROUND ART
Screw-type implants are now well-known. U.S. Pat. No. 3,499,222 of L. I. Linkow et al. discloses screw-type implants which may be buried in the alveolar ridge crest bone of a patient in an edentulous region. The implant has a threaded lower portion which may be screwed into an opening created in the bone after the tissue has been displaced. A coronal portion protrudes above the bone and is used to support an artificial dental appliance, e.g., an artificial tooth or bridge.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
Abutment screw is laminated with a plastic material (plastic material could be polyurethane acrylic, polyvinyl siloxane or other plastic material) of 0.15 to 0.35 mm (preferably) in thickness, which acts as shock absorber (virtual periodontal ligament) during mastication, it reduces direct forces on bone. Which leads to less bone resorption and increases life of implant.

Interesting. In the case of hip implants, and indeed in natural hips subject to postural defect or inactivity, bone demineralises in areas where the impact stress is reduced. Why does the jaw act differently?

alveolar process will resorb if optimum pressure/activity is not subjected on the tooth.
also it will resorb if excessive pressure is applied and is same for all bone.
we are trying to optimize pressure.

Surely with stem cell advances soon to enable complete tooth renewal - is there a point in pursuing prehistoric implant technology ?
