75% of matter resides to where and why?
« on: 22/07/2009 16:21:28 »
where does 75% of the matter (energy) in the universe reside to?
why and how does this happen?
By the way what does reside mean?

Correct me if I'm wrong

I've heard that those undetectable matter and energy exists in the form of dark matter and dark energy.

The existence of dark matter and dark energy are hypothesized by the geometrical theory of elementary particle physics which try to "balance" out the "chemistry" of the universe, the same way we always balance our chemistry and mathematical formulas.

The reasons why we cannot detect them is that these particles might not exists near to us or it doesn't have any kind of effect to particles around us, making detections practically impossible.

...I think...

Do we know for sure that dark matter and dark energy definitely exist? History is full of examples of scientists arbitrarily inventing substances to explain away inconsistencies in their incomplete knowledge. Didn’t Einstein spend the first decade of his life working on ether, the mythical carrier medium of space?

Whenever dark matter is explained to me it seems as though physicists have plucked it out of thin air to complete the balance sheet for matter.

Yea, we don't know about that. It's the best explanation that we have today. Hopefully we'll find out its validity in the LHC experiment.

Or, is there any other explanation for this question? Hope you can share

Here is a related thread. I'm not sure it will help.
