But yes, it could have gone the other way, a Japanese population believing in 'divine rights', refusing a surrender. And in that case, what would USA have done? I think I can guess it.

It didn't win the second world war, it may have ended it, but it also gave us Pandora's box. The one we're trying to open today.

The only way I can get it to make sense would be if you only refer to Japan. And how the Japanese Emperor reacted upon learning about those atrrocities.

With two bombs Alan?

I'm thinking you don't mean it that way, am I right?

I wouldn't call it 'looking for peace' myself, no matter how one turns it around.

Well, both heavily partial I would say. Each one from their own side of the spectrum. The 'Diplomat' tying it up in a lot of 'deep thinking' whereas W.J. Astore's article becomes a more emotional piece.

The Guardian with its own points to make.

This one is slightly ridiculous to me. the article building on one point. The kingpin...

"  Pelosi’s visit is not an attempt to erode strategic ambiguity, but it is an attempt to deter Beijing from unilaterally changing the status quo. "   As a 'defense' for provoking China I find it lacking, a lot of sense.

https://thediplomat.com/2022/08/the-strategic-logic-of-nancy-pelosis-visit-to-taiwan/

It has turned into the opposite, hasn't it? But yes, I'm sure it has to do with the internal logic of that splintered American congress , and their internal party politics.  Not so much to to do with China as with USA in other words.  And as Mr Biden already is a fierce defender of this Russia- Ukraine war, he probably also will be found a fierce defender of Nancy Pelosi 'right' of doing what she , and friends, finds best for us.

This one present another side of it.

But I don't think that will stop us from starting one.

A lovely description Alan :)

I'll just add that for myself, I don't think anyone can 'win' a nuclear war.

So generally speaking, trend wise, fossil productions and developments should rise 2022 and 2023. Another distorted truth from this war.

There might become a ironic twist to Iran-USA negotiations over nuclear arms. That one should develop from our 'oil crisis', aka the Russia - Ukraine war. If Mr Biden wants to start negotiate about Iranian oil deliveries.

Each one of them presenting their reasons for it in the best light available. And all of them with God on their side.

I don't think any Country will be untouched here, and we can already see our 'solutions' presented.

Coups, revolutions and wars.

And Iran?

https://www.euronews.com/2022/08/07/us-iran-nuclear-usa

That already finds grave problems arising from global warming and failed infra structural planning. To it we need to add competitions over those natural resources still left, as with Turkey starting to hoard water.

Maybe I should change the title?

"Strategies of a failed species"

doesn't sound too bad, does it?

And that war will be about resources, by any means. By all contestants.

something fundamental has changed to the thinking and strategies we used to have here in Sweden. I call it a sign of the times, and of what we think awaits us. And it builds from changed ideals, values and beliefs. Becoming self fulfilling.

If we get out of 2022. and possibly 2023.
