WE ARE IN THE PATH OF TSUNOMI...AFTER JAPANS 8.9 QUAKE EARLIER..WE WERE TOLD ITS YRAVELING OVER 500 MILES PER HOUR...SO DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY MORE INFO....?

Physiology & Medicine / Does anyone have any good tips for keeping heartrate below 60 beats per minute?

I am supposed to keep it 60 or under and I seem to be failing..

I walked from my bed to my living room and it shot up to 64 where

I immediately felt horrible and and the pain became terrible...

I took the nitro it fixed it, but not before it escalated to 74

upon resting on the couch!

So how do I keep it down below 60 without staying in bed all the time?

All I have to do is move from bed and it goes up fast!

Any tips will be most helpful and welcome!

Whensday or winsday...LOL.. so given the proper
Spelling of Wednesday... Is the "d" actually supposed to be silent or should it be heard or pronounced when spoken?

I stayed home and did nothing!

I watched a couple old romantic movies...

and just drove to Mckinleyville to a

Denny's restaurant at about 1:00 A.M.today

after Valentines day...I ate a salad,drank

a cocoa, and a cup of coffee at a table

until 4:00 A.M. while I talked to a Non-romantic friend.

No Valentines or calls all day long!

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / How keen is a parakeets sense of smell?

I have just taken on a pet parakeet for some company... and companionship.. I have been tres lonesome.. and do love his little chirp..

Someone originally purchased Tweety then he fled or escaped and he got outside where he nearly died from not being able to take care of himself.. He eventually was injured.. My sister and I saw him outside for two months and saw his health decline.. assumed someone lost him and so my brother in law finally was able to catch him due to the birds deteriorating health and they have had him for two years now... My sister has given Tweety to me and I am enjoying his company... he is a Lovely, Mellowly, Sweet, Lemon Yellow Parakeet.. aptly named Tweety-Bird!

I was cleaning his cage last night when I had this thought about his sense of smell? What do you think? Does anyone know anything about that?

Dear Diary..

Its been too long since someone has entered in the Diary thread, so I have locked the 85 page version 9, and started this new one. Please help me to make Neil's old thread as lively and fun as all the previous ones.. Lets Start again and bring back some good cheer and catch up and get to know each other as we post in all the threads of this lovely science forum.

Well I am still here and trying to get back into gear with posting and reading and enjoying life and friends. I have been very ill and am wanting to dwell on good things and funny humor that our fellow posters have while posting both science and chat posts! Lets have some fun!

I am sitting here with sudden very very blurred vision.. my eyes feel weird droopy almost and I slept great last night. I was fine all day but now in less then an hour... I can't see anything without very blurred vision? Does anyone know what to make of such a goofy thing?
I had some little sharp pains behind my right eyebal but only a second or two then they were gone.. Now nothing but fuzziness..Everything I type seems fuzzy etc... I don't get it!

Physiology & Medicine / Why are my Cardiac enzymes still high after my heart attack?

They have come down but are still higher then she said she would like but she explained nothing other then I could have another one...Heart attack that is.. this is the third one now since 2006.. so  far no damage but this last one she said was more severe as far as the heart muscle and it seems to be more sluggish...I am on blood thinners and am waiting for the 2oth to be reevaluated in Stanford.. seems they are still baffled here..

So I understand that the enzymes are markers of a type and can help in diagnosis etc with the heart attack.. So They are sending me back to Standford on the 20th to re-evaluate the aneurysms.. She thinks they are basically, at least the upper aorta one is the concern..It  is Larger.. is causing problems... with oxygen supply and wants the cardiologists to do more checking...

How the heck can that cause trouble with oxygen supply...? It makes no sense to me? The high blood pressure causes the expansion of the aneurysm, sending the blood to the left ventricle, which is flawed, and cannot deal with the higher volume blood flow, so it gushes back into the valve, regurgitating and clotting in the valve. I would think that the expansion or volume, would cause more oxygenated blood to be pumped into the heart, does it not....? Not good for the aneurysm or me, but how does it impede oxygen to the heart?

Could someone explain.. so I understand.. I tried to look it up, but cannot find anything relevant to explain what she means, or how that could be???

Pardon the morbidity in this post and know I am asking just to know or hear other explanations.I know spiritually at least for me what this encompasses, but in a scientific manner can someone explain the physiology behind this type of death experience?

Are their Scientific based explanations to help me understand the bodies reaction to these things and the calming I have seen in the final moments of life.. Things like very labored breathing before the end turning to calm peaceful quiet breathing the final hour or so..and
is this common with any death or are they each different in their final moments? Then there are visions and or conversations with deceased loved ones about passing over or allowing oneself to let go of life and relinquish the anxiety of death.. followed by a very peaceful serenity..?

Can any of you doctors or anyone help me to understand the way the body shuts down and what is happening in the body and brain during the final hours of death?

They are so cool! They have a tiny fan built in under them and they will move up a wall and across the ceiling, but the wheels are just for show because the fan makes the car behave like a hover craft!

I still want to know how they can move across the ceiling over your head?

Does anyone have an explanation that my wee brain will understand...?

I have read a tiny bit on the subject. I would like to have some more background from some of you folks here without being referred away from our forum....If some of you would please begin an explanation and or a bit of back ground on the subject,then allow me to ask bone headed questions when I need to, I would love to learn a bit about this, and how it may or may not apply to the human body, and or, healing of our bodies and minds. Physiology & Medicine / I've been diagnosed with Heliocobacter Pylori, what causes this bacteria?

Friday I had a Upper endoscopy and they found a ton of

problems inside one of which is Heliocobacter Pylori.

I would like to know more about how it works. I have read

the data she gave me but would like the low down from you all.

I have had 0  stomach symptoms, or problems, except for occasional diarrhea or

constipation from pain medicines. My stomach has most always felt fine..

I have however had trouble swallowing for the last year and this

has progressively gotten worse, and was the reason for the procedure

to begin with!

They did the scope and took many biopsies inside on Friday.

She said that my insides are a complete mess... whatever that means?

I have to wait two to three weeks for the results from all the biopsies!

The reasons  for procedure was to determine if thyroid goiter or aneurysms

or Hiatal Hernia were the reasons for my swallowing difficulties..

1. GERD Gastroesophageal reflux Disease

2. Heliocobacter Pylori

3.Hiatal Hernia, (which we already knew I had)

 So I am wondering about H pylori...? I have a friend who has

it and has been being treated for several years for it.. his

insides were truly a mess but he felt horrible, My tummy has

always felt pretty good.

I have been immediately started on a proton pump inhibitor called

Lansoprazole, and no antibiotics as of yet.. tomorrow we will see

what they say.

So where does it come from or start? How does it multiply or become

worse?  Why, oh why, am I now feeling iccky in my stomach when it was fine,

before she disturbed my insides with biopsies etc.. ? Now I am having loads of digestion

trouble , pain I suspect from the biopsies and a generally sore tummy and I recieved a

fat lip compliments of the scope and tools used.. my lip is still swollen and numb

feeling...BOOOO...LOL...
