Well this is very interesting is there a visual display I can set up to show him from the batteries to the coils etc to sort of show him where the emf field stats and what happens like from point A to B..etc.so that it in the right order but visably like a chain reaction from the push of the button to power it up to the sounding of the beep when it finds metal?

Well this year I purchased 3 metal detectors! Two for children and one pretty basic adult size metal detector. Today while my grandson was here we went out to use his child version metal detector which by the way works about as well as the very expensive adult one I bought for his brother at Christmas. While digging for his treasure he began asking me about how the meal detector worked and I not having ever thought about it immediately began mulling it over in my head, thinking surely there must be something to do with magnetism that helped it find metal, but because I really had no idea about the basic principles of their workings, I refrained from giving him my immediate thoughts and told him I'd have to refer to others who knew more about it then I do, So what lovely things can you tell me about the inner workings of the metal detectors? if you can enlighten us on how they work, including any details my 7 year old Grandson might like to know? Like how they detect different types of metals etc,,, ? He is autistic and very bright and inquisitive!
Whilst giving me many of his own analogies, He was extremely excited to find his two little treasures .. LOL And old metal bottle cap off perhaps an old alka-seltzer bottle along with a large Bolt! He exclaimed That surely any pirates would be very frustrated by the people who have made metal detectors and by us for finding their treasures so easily!

I suspect a lot of the answer is "because they can". Goats are curious, intelligent and competitive animals who will explore anything and everything. Unneutered males? Think teenage boys, with four legs.

Thats pretty funny.. I dont remember boys being that gross, but I was pretty shy, so was not around a lot of teen boys and only one living brother... who was pretty mellow. LOL.. But I get your meaning...

LOL  Yes, unneutered ...the ones that do it. This one in particular does it a lot,  He had a op to neuter him but he had a resected testical they could not get to. so he remains potent.. so to speak, and wears a chastity belt so as not to impregnate his female counterparts and pass on the problem with the testical...

Wetting my whistle

I'm feeling the need to wrIite something special,
but, its been 6 years since I wet my whistle!

Dragging my feet through dry desert sand,
There's been little water, In my written word land!

Thoughts like raindrops within a drought,
So hard to find, and live without!

Storing away any moist morning dew,
In hopes that one day a big storm will brew!

A cloud is forming of unwritten words,
The weight of which, will begin a purge!

Releasing six years, of life's physical pains,
Emotions, toils and so much change!

Now trickling down from a rusty spout,
All my words are now just dripping out...

Like magic sprinkles falling all around,
The words are soaking into the ground!

What once was dry and baron soil,
Will bring again, a new life of toil!

New hopes, new dreams, much work it seems,
Winters encroaching, to ready for spring!

So preparing the ground for all that abounds,
My work has just really begun.

Revisiting sites where life's filled with light,
and the wonders therein, that bring such delight.

Within each wall, knowledge befalls me,
I mix old with new, to teach and enthrall me!

Tomorrow's new day, refreshing and clean,
No longer arid and dying it seems.

New beginnings, new dreams, new friends, all around...
Just wetting my whistle and sticking around!

Clothing up due to societal norms is quite discomforting.
Seems sensible for climatic reasons.

Btw, what Soap or Shampoo does one use during an air-bath?
Any Recommendations?

"Nessun Dorma" doesn't work too well, but the trick is to use the same song, or at best a very limited repertoire,  every night - it imposes the comfort of familiarity at the end of a day of new and exciting discoveries.

I think there is something to what you say as I had a handful of tunes I found that worked well and each child was different as to which song put them to sleep. It was Shenandoah, and One tin soldier, with my Grandsons who still love it and play it on a loop while we drive... My kids loved Shenandoah.. I thing it was the low tones ...

Two daughters here, the first one highly resistant to sleep and the second one completely troublefree. I can't remember if I tried singing, somehow doubt it, not having a singing voice.

   Awe sweet. My first was a sweet little girl...an Angel for sure.....My second child was a son. He was sweet also, but born with lung issues, sick, because he was born very late, and in fetal distress as they had let him cook too long...but stress tests revealed he was in trouble so they induced him twice and when he arrived he had lung issues from a  lot of meconium in his lungs.  He was really hard to get to sleep at night even with a song Just like his son Now, back then they had not mentioned autism but I would venture to guess that he ticked most of the boxes for it, looking back at that in hindsight! My third was  another boy and once again easy... gentle spirited little man!

My Grandson is Autistic also and loves music but he has definite preferences about when he wants to be sung too.. if he is not wanting to sleep and his mind is very active it really takes a regime  of songs to find the one that can calm his brain activity down enough to go to sleep...

That"s very nice...  is there an oMy kids loved being sung to as babies..

I sang to all 3 of my own babies and also to my preschool children. Had really good luck soothing 3 to 5 year old autistic children who never slept except at preschool when I held them in my lap and sang to them.... old songs like Shanandoah, poor wayfaring stranger... not rock a bye baby...lol

I sang to all my kids, but mostly during nappy changes, all with familiar songs with rewritten lyrics.
The autistic one was the least responsive to it, but he's very musical nevertheless.

The one consistent lullaby I did was to the Pooh tune about the rain cloud:

I have learned how to complain,  loud...
cuz no one pay's 'tention' to me.
If you can learn to complain, loud,
then you'll get noticed, you'll see


Don't remember putting em to sleep with that, but it did calm them down.

Is there an Online sound bit that I could hear the tune?

That does sound gross and I have never heard of such a practice. The urine of many unneutered mammals( male ) does frequently have a strong odour. The "boss"(Alancalverd vernacular) and myself run a small scale cat shelter-tom cat pee is the bane of my life!

Yes Tom cat pee is really strong and odorous for sure! Good on  you two for taking care of the cats.. I love cats!

Agreed! When the kids were older tenagers we had about 3 nubian goats over several years, of which I NEVER seen them do this at all. So I am quite baffled! They were Nubian and Alpine. These current Goats are Nigerian Dwarves! They are also much more vocal and  loud little varmints...LOL

My daughter has moved home to my property to save to build or buy a manufactured home and live here. In her presence this last year, she started a bit of a farm.. 9 goats, 8 chickens, 1 white silkie Rooster and 7 hens. 2 Dogs! She has quite the menagerie started. The most odd thing I have seen, is the male goats urinating in their own mouths!! Goats can be quite noisy little critters but this is just gross! And they can really smell particularly bad because of it! So why do they do this? I have not seen any of the females do it, but a couple of the unneutered males. Is this a male goat thing or just any Goat? Why do they do this and how can they physically do it,,,they look like contortionists whilst doing it. LOL.. Please enlighten my non-farmer mind...!

Gladly. That is my real name, I live in Ireland, 71 years old, retired electrical engineer with an interest in ALL areas of science and a notorious grump.

Nice to meet you Paul. Thats a nice career. Thank you for sharing. I live in  the USA, Calif. 63 years young and spent early years as house wife and mother. My children grew up and I went  back to college to get my teaching credentials.. Ended up teaching preschool children and working with autistic kids as often as I could.  Now medically retired but recovering from major health problems but doing very well.I found the forum while researching some diet pills I was using to lose weight..
