I think peak bitcoin has been reached, and many more crypto currencys are around. Bitcoin has a finite supply, so it is completley unworkable. The first bitcoins where easiest to mine, have been bought cheaply, do if the rest of the workd wishes to use it, they have to pay a fortune for them. Pyramid scheme at least in bitcoins case. Im not saying that this sort of cryptography is unworkable for money serial numbers, but finite supplies limit it finitley.
Since the release of bitcoin, over 4,000 altcoins (alternative variants of bitcoin, or other cryptocurrencies) have been created.

But still, these currencies are a ponzy scheme.
