Title: Can chickens get hiccups???
Post by: Variola on 24/08/2009 20:00:54
Hello TNS peoples!!!

I want to know if chickens can get hiccups-not a common question I know but my reasoning will become clear.

To those of you with small children, or grandchildren, you will know that children's TV programmes are written specifically so the tune gets inside your head and you find youself humming it for days and days on end, until finally you end up in a padded cell!!  [;D]

One such programme is called The Wiggles, and they do a song about a chicken getting the hiccups. Not only is it the most pointless song in history, but it has the ability to ingrain itself in ones psyche, until you feel the urge to suffocate yourself with a lamb chop.

Please do not click on the below link unless you are a seasoned parent, able to handle such trauma to the ears!

 [:o]It is bad isn't it?

Anyhow, looking up chicken anatomy, I can't seem to see anything that looks like a diaphragm on the chicken, thus enabling them to hiccup. But not being as Au fait
with bird anatomy as I am human, I thought I would ask on here.

What do you think? Can chickens hiccup??

I haven't found a good answer but here is a youtube video of a chicken with hiccups.
Apparently if you do here a noise like a hiccup coming out of your hen it could have grapeworm and that is a very bad thing. Not treated chicken could peg it. I haven't found anything on the mechanics of a chicken hiccup though.

As a firm believer in empirical study I have for the last two hours attempted via the 'laying-upon-of-hands' method to induce hiccups in this chicken !

Result ?  No hiccups...cold hands !

Glad I could help !

ITS FOG TIME CHILDREN.

I should think a chicken with Grape Worm might get a bit sozzled!!!
One with Gapeworm, on the other hand, would snuff it.
