Does anyone know if there have been studies linking raised sea temperatures to outflow from thermal vents and underground volcanic outflow? The elevated sea temperatures then being a factor in, or at least coinsiding with ENSO.

I couldnt find much...but here is some of what did turn up. By way of disclaimer, I havent read any of these papers, but, except for one, they have authors whose other work I am very familiar with. All of them deal with aerosols, though. I couldnt find anything dealing specifically with subterranean/suboceanic volcanic activity. If you cant access the articles, I can DL them and email them to you.
Effect of Geomagnetic and Volcanic Activity on the El Nino and La Nina Phenomena
Vovk et al. 2009 Geomagnetism and Aeronomy
Volcanoes and ENSO over the past millennium
Emile-Geay et al. 2008 Journal of Climate (Just at a cursory glance, in the abstract she states that she is building on the work of Dr. Michael Mann, which automatically sends off bells...though I am admittedly biased on this point. Cook and Haug lend the paper some credence though, so it should be an interesting read)
Effect of ENSO and volcanic events on the Sun-cloud link
Voiculescu et al. 2007 Advances in Space Research (Ilya Usoskin is second author, and has become somewhat of a controversial figure because of his research into solar variability, cosmic rays, and cloud nucleation)
Proxy evidence for an El NiƱo-like response to volcanic forcing
Adams et al. 2003 Nature (This is the aforementioned Mann research - he is second author. Its a Nature paper and that says something in itself.)

Thanks Adam. You have my email address, don't you?

Although not directly relating volcanic activity to ENSO, the Climate Change sceptic blog "Watts Up With That" (although if you are familiar with the site, you make consider it more denialist than truly sceptical) looked at the impact of the recent eruption near tonga on sea Surface temperatures...

Any chance on sending your email addy again? Im not finding it in my address book

Done. Sent to your Uni of Texas addy.
