How often do we see people picking up their children, or dropping them off, keeping their car engines running while they chat with their friends, and while their children, and others, are likely to be breathing in the fumes.
Do these foolish and lazy people not realise that this stupidity could increase their childrens' chances of developing breathing difficulties, or may make existing difficulties worse?

Maurice....they obviously do not realise....and they probably don't care too I'm afraid.....it's difficult in this day and age in our modern society to not be aware of pollution....but, I would always give the benefit of doubt to the complete and total ignoramus who really has no clue at all....and yet...these people have produced children and have the right to vote....which is scary.
I think it's very much a culture here where everybody is out to get as much as they can for themselves and 'sod everybody else' mentality and thus there is little sense of community amongst the majority. It's more a ' what can my country do for me ? ' rather than ' what can I do for my country ? ' way of thinking....unfortunately.........I hope I'm wrong....

It scares me way more that people (in the UK at least) can legally have children before they: finish school, are old enough to vote, drive, drink, get married (without parental consent) or even be hypnotized!!!!!!!!! And this is if you stick to age of consent but the UK has one of the highest teen and under age pregnancy rates in Europe. To think that age of consent only a couple of hundred years ago was 12!!! the reason that was changed was to prevent child prostitution. When I think that I could legally have a four year old child already it makes my mind boggle. There should be some sort of law about protected sex (allowing for peoples religious freedom) up to a certain age?!? I'm not getting at teen age mothers because im sure most are more than capable of bringing up children, its just as a nation wouldn't it be better to decide that morally it might be better to wait a little longer?
Infact cant peeps in the UK join the services at 16 to??? so at 16 years old you are magically ready to create and destroy life??? But not ready to vote for who should be running the country?!?

I know this is going off the original topic but it might shock you to know that in some countries, the age of consent for male-female sex is as low as twelve !! I think Holland is one of them and this is reflected by their LOW rate of teen pregnancies and child prostitution.....and in Oman and Pakistan ,as far as I have been able to determine, the age of consent does not exist !!

The problem is we do have an age of consent but it just appears to me that its a completely arbitrary one. I can see how having no age of consent would also take away the idea of "now i'm old enough, i should go out and do X" that lots of people seem to have.

We seem to be getting sidetracked into age of consent territory. However, most of the people I observe doing this dangerous and irresponsible thing are not all youngsters. Thoughtlessness, it seems, is not a preserve of the young.
No doubt these same idiots, if and when their children do develop breathing difficulties, will blame "atmospheric pollution", and demand that "they" do something about it, whilst remaining oblivious to the fact that they have been a major contributor to the damage done to their childrens' health.
Surely this is a matter of education, trying to get idiots to see the harm they are doing.

Definitely !!..Education is what it's all about !!...but people have to be motivated to learn too, they must be made to want to learn.....

What about parents who smoke infront of thier children? This might not be so poluting but it is far more dangerous to the child.

Now that really pisses me off too Matt....I just can't unbderstand it, esepcially when they're in a car. And what about the twats who have their children in the front seat without a safetybelt on ? and ESPECIALLY the sub-humans who literally hold their baby in their arms in the front passenger seat !!!......makes my blood boil with a sense of hoplessness....
