John Muir asked the Naked Scientists:
Hallo,
And a huge Thank You for
the podcasts
[nofollow]
and also the
super web site
[nofollow]
.
I've been following you for about two years now and it just struck me
today, while looking at the Flame Tornado, how much work Dave Ansell
must put into creating each Kitchen Science article with the custom-made
graphics. I'd be very interested to hear what software Dave uses to
create these graphics.
Best regards,
John Muir
What do you think?

I'm still quite fascinated how these diagrams are created. Would it be possible to show the steps in creating one of the diagrams in e.g. "Surface tension and water" (11th April, 2010)?

I tend to start with primitives like rectangles or triangles, then either glue them together or convert them into a polyline and add or move around points in the object. Next time I do one I will try and remember to save the intermediate steps and show you.
