Richard and Claire's London Marathon Bid.

Hi all, to avoid disturbing Neil's lovely diary thread... i thought it best to start afresh.
As some of you may have noticed, Claire and I have submitted our forms to run in the London Marathon next year in memory of our dear friend Dave who recently died of Leukaemia at just 26. We feel its our way of both doing something for Dave and helping to raise money for the scientific study of this cancer.
We will not know until December whether our applications have been successful, its done by ballot and its all down to luck. With a one in three chance of acceptance there is every possibility that either one of us or even both of us will not gain a place. However, our training is underway and i am proud to say i ran about 12 miles at the weekend. We'll be crossing our fingers that we are both able to run the race together.
I am very grateful to Neil for his immediate offer of help in fundraising, the raffle sounds like a brilliant idea. It may also be possible to set up some type of paypal site on the net to help sponsorship globally (hint hint).
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions or just wishes to discuss the marathon, please feel free to post below. Thankyou everyone for your support already.
Richard and Claire.

you can set up a webpage via the london marathon website that you can use to collect sponsorship - maybe that would be a good idea!
after claires reply on the 'Hijacked' thread I looked at the london marathon website, if i ran (walked/limped) I think it would be either the muscular dystrophy campaign (who fund my work) or a cancer charity. I've sent out some info gathering e-mails and will make a decision soon!

How many marathons are you aiming to eat ? 26 ?
And aren't they called snickers these days ?

Mate...sorry about your injury...hopefully you'll be back to peak soon......but it's ironic isn't it ?..that sports people, such as yourself, who are usually the fittest of us also receive far more than their fair share of injuries....I suppose that's what comes with the territory.....most injuries I've sustained have been due to sports too...wish you better.

its a bit of a groin strain... nothing too serious but dont want to risk anything! just get frustrated when i cant hit the road. The most demoralising thing will be if i get to December and am on target with the training and then get turned down! [V]

Matey...even if you do get turned down at least you'll be well fit and so it would have not gone to waste....but from what I understand it is a lottery anyway eh ?.....Perhaps you can mention the web site and the free publicity they have earned from it on your application form etc etc....good luck and hope your groin gets better....ouch !!...........then there's always the next one and other marathons too....I'm sure our american chums will pay for you and Claire to fly you over to do the New York marathon !!...and me too....to watch....shop....and eat...and play........chin up !!
