Is pois because of poor methylation issues?
Can we not convert Glutamate into GABA?

To get normal methylation and  GLUTAMATE into GABA conversion going, check out:

1. Methylated vitamin b-s (for example Jarrow b-right)
2. NAC
3. Taurine

Anyone else tried the above against pois?

Is it all because of MTHFR-mutation?

In case one does not want to use supplements - can any diet fix these issues it the above is the problem?

peace

Glutamate seems to be released during O, and it SHOULD be converted into GABA. Most people with pois get relief from supplements that increase GABA. - The enzyme glutamate decarboxylase might not be working for us (?) - and then glutamate is NOT converted into GABA..

According to this article, Taurine is a good choice for lowering Glutamate and increasing GABA, and making the enzyme work:

"The amino acid taurine increases the GAD enzyme and consequently GABA levels. Additionally, taurine doubles as an inhibitory neurotransmitter and can bind directly to GABA receptors, so it can help provide balance naturally in that manner as well. Higher levels of any inhibitory neurotransmitter help lower high levels of any excitatory neurotransmitter. Taurine is found in high levels in the brain and cardiac tissue, indicating its importance in these areas. Taurine is found most abundantly in seafood and animal protein, so it is often deficient in one’s diet."

Too much Glutamate:

"Elevated levels of glutamate trigger the brain to release its natural opioids (endorphins/enkephalins) in order to protect the brain from damage, which can result in feelings of spaciness and eventually contribute to depletion of your natural opioids, and it also depletes glutathione levels, which is vital for detoxification, controlling inflammation and gut health. Additionally, glutathione also assists in protecting neurons from damage, so when it is depleted it is not available to do this job and thus contributes to more cell death. High levels of glutamate may increase the survival of unfriendly microbes in the gut and contribute to problems like excess acid and heartburn. Too much glutamate can lead to too much acetylcholine, and too much acetylcholine has a stimulating effect as well and puts one into a perpetual state of sympathetic stress with high levels of anxiety, fear, insomnia, restlessness, nervousness etc."

Hi,

Can pois be all about too much GLUTAMATE?

Glutamate is a exitatory neurotransmitter (you get "jacked up").
In a healthy person Glutamate should be converted oin to GABA ( the inihibitory/calming neurotransmitter).

But the enzyme that does this (glutamate decarboxylase) needs to be working! it does not work for everyone ( for example mthfr-mutation can defect it).

Things that regulate/lower Glutamate are:
CBD, Ginger, Niacin(?), Taurine and NAC.... And methylated vitamin b-s.

Do people with pois have a defect Glutamate-GABA-conversion?

GLUTAMATE seems to raise 300% in rats during ejaculation?
https://www.jneurosci.org/content/26/6/1699

What if it does not get converted into GABA....? - then you get "jacked/doped up"!?

Symptoms of too much Glutamate:
https://area1255-portal2.blogspot.com/2016/04/symptoms-of-high-glutamate-levels-in.html

To lower GLUTAMATE and turn it into GABA Check out:
Cbd, Taurine, methylated/active vitamin B-s and especially NAC (?)

We got this....
Hoping to finish this

If this theory can get rid of pois i guess then pois can be all about:

1. Making the enzyme Glutamate decarboxylase start working
2. Or lowering glutamate with amino acids like Taurine and/or NAC

... what do you think?
at least then there is something concrete to work on.

I for one get autistic traits and can not socialize from - what i guess is too much glutamate. These traits go away with NAC, Taurine and methyl vitamin b´s.

How do you best lower glutamate and/or make the enzyme Glutamate decarboxylase to start working?

Glutamate -> needs a working -> Glutamate decarboxylase enzyme -> in order to turn Glutamate into -> GABA...

( i think celiac disease/gluten can also disrupt the function of Glutamate decarboxylase which might explain why lchf diet can work for some?)

Hi, i started this thread on reddit - hopefully this is the final chapter:

"Hi,

Ive been able to get rid of pois by using cbd tea and ginger tea - both potent antiinflammatories. They also reach the gut....

Step 2 for me has been to do a KETO/LCHF diet with almost no carbs for two weeks. Ive also added homemade BONE BROTH - to heal the gut. I will add sauerkraut further on. Keto means that you get your energy from fat, instead of from carbs.

People recommending lchf/keto diets mean that diabetes, depression, autoimmune diesases (?) etc evolved at the same time when people started feeding from agricultural sources. Maybe we should just eat what we could get directly from nature? - fish/chicken/meat, vegetables, healthy fats. And eat the whole animal - make bone broths.

Bone broth contains glutamine, glycine and other vital amino acids for gut health.

Maybe weve been suffering from low grade inflammation in the gut from carbodydrates - and the gut needs to heal, through bone broth and by eliminating industrial carbs?

Check out the GAPS-diet, and you might also check out this documentary https://www.netflix.com/se/title/80238655

Im feeling healthier day by day, both mentally and physically by doing this. And my pois seems to go away. ive still used cbd oil, but maybe i dont need to.

Could more people cut down on carbs and drink bone broth daily for like 2 weeks and report back?

Maybe healing the gut with  bone broth is the culprit?

Best regards,
akt1

(i started bone borth due to being hit by  digestive issues, but maybe its all related.)"

Ok, update if anyone needs some extra info.

I suspect that this thing originates from the gut.
Ive tried prebiotics and probiotics for a couple of weeks - they did not work for me.

What does work, and eliminates pois probably completely, is a good cup of ginger and hemp tea.
Both are potent antiinflammatory supplements. Ginger and hemp tea tastes well i think, and is probably very good for the body. I take decarbed (baked) hemp, and raw hemp. By using this combo i feel happy and relieved after O, the pois madness does not hit me.

Next thing i will try is L-glutamine to heal the gut/the stomach lining... maybe there is some inflammation originating from there?

But as for now... a good cup of ginger and hemp tea before O, and everything is well.

peace

Hi,

If methylation might be related to pois - could it then all be related to mthfr-mutation?

The mthfr gene..
Can mehylfolate and methylcobalamin work?

I was thinking...

If Ginger works for some people - ginger is antiinflammatory and fixes gut problems.
Wouldn¨t then probiotics be beneficial against pois?

Has anyone tried sauerkraut? (which is antiinflammatory and full of probiotics...)

Regards,
Ak1

This is a puzzle, i need to fix this.
Has anyone tried a prebiotic (such as bimuno), and a probiotic to fix the gut...?
Gut issues can affect cortisol, dopamine, serotonin, anxiety, inflammation.

Another possible cure here.
I take HEMP...
Rich in CBD (cannabidiol) - which is antiinflammatory and calming. Also affects prolactin i think.

I can feel the "pulse", the bad "attack" that occurs for me 1 hour after O - but it does not destroy me...
it just passes without discomfort...

I eat raw and decarboxylated hemp, and i also drink it in tea.
It is legal in all of EU.

It's been over 3 months, and I want to followup and report that Ginger still works for me.

My protocol for using it has never changed.  I simply take 2 ginger pills immediately before or after an O.  As a result, most times the next day I can't tell that I had an O.  For best results, I limit my Os to 1-2x a week.  If I have too many my body will weaken and I'll get some of the symptoms, but still not all of them.

It's clear that Ginger doesn't work for everyone.  By that same token, niacin never worked for me and it worked for others.

Best part about it is how simple it is.  A large bottle of Nature's Way (which I use) is under $10.  And there's no discomfort by taking 2 pills.  And you can even take it right after the O.  Could not be easier.

I would also like to contribute with the fact that ginger does help me.
I take 3 capsules of natures way, before 3 o´s.
If I only have one O i might get pois though. Maybe i need to "flush" the ginger through my system.
Ginger has been used as a medicine for centuries and in ayurveda.
Dont know the exact mechanism, but i feel almost totally normal after O if I use it. Even the days after.
Which is remarkable.

Best regards,
Peace out,

Do any of you guys have Visual Snow as a symptom? It's kind of like seeing static and spots in your visual field. I especially notice it when I look at a single color or things far away like the sky. It also comes and goes, so sometimes I don't notice it at all. I'm wondering if its an issue with the eyes or brain.

Bubbly urine is another odd symptom I have and can point it to anything since my kidney and liver function have tested normal. Does anyone else have this?

Akt1 - I saw that you take GABA and thought I'd mention the author of the book "Why Isn't My Brain Working" said GABA cannot cross the blood brain barrier. The book said to use it as a test since you will only feel a relaxing effect from it if your blood brain barrier is compromised. If you do feel an effect try taking krill oil. Also, it looks like you've been on this forum for a year or so. Are you still 100% free of POIS from ginger and your supplements?

Hi Taked,

Ginger has been a bit sketchy. It sometimes works, sometimes not. Maybe its gingerTEA that gives the best effects.
I do not know. I practice nofap, and I actually do enjoy the spiritual insights, the ackumulated presence/dedication. I feel genuine as when i was a kid, grounded. I will check out vitamin D, thanks man. Maybe its thyroid-related? The thyroid gets damaged from stress, and healed by vitamin d? Its tricky. From taking 10 000 iu two days in a row however, my mood and energy has definitely improved. I also feel calmer I believe.

The vitamin d deficiency might then correlate with the fact that many people feel less pois in the summer, or when being in sunny environments.

And the blood sugar issue might correlate with niacin and taurine both affecting blood sugar, from what i know of.

I posted cliff notes at the bottom. Disclaimer: I'm a student studying computer science and have no formal education in medicine.
I didn’t start experiencing PIOS until I tore my body apart in high school with stress, intense physical exertion and caffeine at age 18 (now age 20). I’ve been to tons of doctors, all of whom have said I am healthy. Every standard blood and urine test (plus a kidney ultrasound and brain mri), no matter how many times I do them, come back normal. Since I was masturbating almost everyday I didn’t consider the problem to be ejaculation until almost a year later when I tried NOFAP. I diagnosed myself pretty quickly as having candida yeast overgrowth in my gut, and leaky gut syndrome. Stool tests done by a homeopathic doctor recently confirmed this. Many doctors have told me these conditions don’t exist, but trust the internet and your instinct. Apparently yeast overgrowth is caused by a poor functioning immune system and is not common in men. Why was my immune system not functioning properly?
I tried everything including eliminating sugar, gluten, meat, only eating carbs, very high fiber diet, nootropics, megadose probiotics, betaine hcl, enzyme supplements but nothing was a long term solution.

A study on POIS I found on the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) website essentially says a doctor found 88% of a small sample of men with POIS had an immunological reaction to their own semen, showing it is probably autoimmune. It definitely has the symptoms of an autoimmune disease.
From my understanding, people who develop autoimmune diseases first have a change in gut bacteria (in my case yeast), then develop leaky gut syndrome. After this goes on for a while, the immune system becomes so disoriented by the foreign particles permeating the gut wall it attacks the body. The repeated attacks create an autoimmune disease. All autoimmune diseases essentially have the same root cause but have different manifestations (depending on where they attack in the body). About 15 years ago a Brazilian doctor named Cicero Coimbra realized mega doses of Vitamin D caused permanent remission in people who suffered from any autoimmune disease, including Multiple Sclerosis, Psoriasis, arthritis, lupus, ect. He trained doctors across the world and has successfully treated, with 95% effectiveness, thousands of patients.
You can google "High Dose Vitamin D Protocol" to see how he treats his patients. I HIGHLY recommend you don’t jump in without doing serious research and having a doctor help you with the tests. At the same time its important to take action and it takes at least 6 months for the treatment to work. Unlike ginger, testosterone therapy, NSAIDS, bennadryl, ect. Vitamin D deficiency is the root cause and fixing it with high doses is likely the only long term solution if this is an autoimmune disease.

This book The Miraculous Results Of Extremely High Doses Of The Sunshine Hormone Vitamin D3 was probably the most important I read. The author pretty much says Vitamin D deficiency is similar to human hibernation and autoimmune diseases are your body trying to protect you from winter and force you to sleep. Sex, stress, and eating sugary foods/fruit are summer activities.
As for quick fixes, the only thing I really found that helped me immediately post orgasm was 100mg of Zinc Gluconate.

My current daily supplement stack is:
30k iu Vitamin D
1k mg Ionic Magnesium
600 mcg Vitamin K2 mk-7 and some mk-4
multivitamin
Vitamin B2
Krill Oil
Candida Support
100mg Zinc Gluconate

Since beginning this several months ago, I have seen major improvements in my energy level, skin rashes, bowel strength, brain fog, recovery time from orgasm, hair quality, I can drink coffee again without running to the toilet immediately after, and feel like I’m getting back to normal *knock on wood*(no pun intended).

Book sources I think everyone struggling with health issues should read, listed in order of importance:
The Miraculous Results Of Extremely High Doses Of The Sunshine Hormone Vitamin D3 My Experiment With Huge Doses Of D3 From 25,000 To 50,000 To 100,000 Iu A Day Over A 1 Year Period
Recaging The Beast - The Disease Behind Disease: The Yeast-Fungal Connection
Multiple Sclerosis and (lots of) Vitamin D: My Eight-Year Treatment with The Coimbra Protocol for Autoimmune Diseases
The Autoimmune Fix

CLIFF NOTES:
POIS is probably an autoimmune disease
Autoimmune diseases are caused by Vitamin D intolerance and permanently treated and put in remission with high dose Vitamin D
Get a doctor to help you with a high dose Vitamin D protocol and fix this problem for good
Let me and others know if Vitamin D has helped you and really is the problem
100mg Zinc gluconate daily helped me with POIS recovery

Thanks mate.
I also got pois - i believe - after my body and nervous system broke down from intense stress from education, career etc and maybe too much partying (which was fun though).

I also believe that many remedies for pois only mask symptoms of something else - maybe an autoimmune disease..

Sorry for repeating, but have your pois symptoms improved from supplementing with vitamin d - could you isolate that factor?
Are high doses of vitamin d safe to take ? (will read up on it)
I can add that ive been taking about 2000 iu of vitamin d daily for the last couple of years- with no pois-improvement, but I have not megadosed on it.

Thanks for sharing.

Ginger has worked for me many times... but one time so far it did not.  It's important to be transparent about the good and the bad.

Ginger is also not 100% reliable in my case.
This is a tricky condition.
Maybe its GingerTEA that makes all the difference..

Taurine made a big difference though, so thanks B_Jim.

Im going to go all in next time:

Taurine
GingerTEA
5htp
Gaba
and
bcomplex, magnesium, vitamin d, omega3, multivitamin - ( i take all of these daily anyway).

...Perhaps all of these are just treating the symptoms,
and the real problem is some kind of inflammation.

I do not know.
The sad thing is that i change as a person after O, my charisma and social ability goes down.
I put people away from me.
But some say thats why you in general should conserve sexual energy.
I do not know how to adres that if being in a relationship though.

But i believe the protocol above might do a difference.
Taken before, and after if needed.

Taurine worked, but i got somewhat "pois-jittery" after O.
That all changed when i took pure gaba...

Im very curious if pure gaba alone might relieve pois.

Taurine makes me more confident(?), gives some libido and some relaxation. A bit insonia also i believe though.
But a nice supplement.

If anyone has tried pure gaba before and after pois, please let me/us know.

Have a nice day,

I take 500mg 30 min before.  It seems more effective against  "pois-initiation" as you said.
On the contrary, if I take sugar hours before it increases pois symptoms.

Thanks man, bad pois here today, even though i took ginger pre-o.
Gets worst second day after O - depression and very bad mood.
Was on my way out on some pretty sketchy adventures so i had to preventatively O-bailout at home for safety  :)

Have you tried GABA?
If pois can be managed by gaba-agonists, why not just take pure gaba?

Will try taurine next time.

Regards,
akt1

I don't know if there is a real "gaba" supplement. I believe Gaba can pass the brain/blood system and maybe even not the stomach.
Gaba supplements are often othe substances supposed to help with Gaba synthesis.
In fact, Taurine is a little miracle for this. If you take benzodiazepine you will have a dependence, not taurine.
The first times I took 500mg every day I even had an effect on my premature ejaculation but I never prove it. Maybe placebo.

I buy now foods 500mg gaba at Iherb.
If i take it on an empty stomach i get a calming effect every time.
I know it is being discussed everywhere though if it works or not, and it seems to be individual.
For me though, the effect is physiological and very noticable.

I need gaba every now and then. It has a similar effect as niacin on me.
A bit more "pure" though.

Maybe pois is an inflammation, and that inflammation stresses the body, making it release excessive amounts of adrenaline and cortisol.

Thats why antiinflammatory stuff and gaba-ergic stuff might work..

And Taurine I believe, is both antiinflammatory and a gaba-agonist.
I guess the same goes for niacin.

So, sorry for being autistic :), but to prevent pois:
1. Antiinflammatory - to prevent release of excessive adrenaline
2. Gaba-agonists - to calm the nervous system down from eventual release of excessive adrenaline

Thats what i think for now.

Best regards,
akt1

How do you take taurine b_jim?

It relieves some of the pois-state after an O i believe...
The jitteryness calms down..

But do you take it before an O?

Niacin for example, seems to take out the "pois-initiation".
So that pois does not occur at all.

Can Taurine take out pois, or does it calm the symptoms?

We need something that lasts a couple of hours, and that takes out the initial phase of pois.
So that it does not start at all.
Ginger has worked for me, but its sketchy, sometimes it does not work.
Not to keen on niacin because of blood sugar, insulin problems.
Maybe niacinamide and/or taurine can fix it.

Thanks guys.
