mine would have to be what i was told when i went through a big financial melt down a few years ago. the things i was doing to try to get out of debt were making it worse. my grandma told me i was digging a big hole, and i should really put down the shovel! i did, and things are much better now.

A good one that I saw in the factual mountaineering movie "Touching the Void" and it's "keep making decisions - if you stop making decisions, you're dead (sic)". This is clearly interpretable on a range of scales, and I choose to take it in a life construction format. I think it's true that if you stop making decisions, then your life can easily become dominated by external events. If you make decisions, there's a good chance that you are in control of your life.

Sometimes decisions are made for you! Sometimes we don't have the choices we would like to have. I have found over the couple months that my life is going to be what it is and the outcome will be what it will be weather I want it to be or not.. It has been difficult to find aspects in my life that I can make decisions on. I have been participant in my life in my relationships, but have never had the helm so to speak tried to steer a couple times but found that life has a way of changing my wishes and my path without regard to the coarse I had hoped to follow.

Yes, that is true.
Sometimes we don't have the choices we would like to have.
This is also true.
I think that the decisions don't necessarily have to be life ones - even "tea or coffee?" is a decision, and perhaps the recognition that to some extent we have a control of ones own life and that it is still possible to have a control over it can improve a self-awareness. Self awareness and self understanding are for me very valuable attributes, and I have found out that for me, this decision making process, and being aware of it, was a strong influence in identifying my own character. I'm not suggesting that it's for everyone, but it sure helped me!
