Title: What causes the heart to miss a beat?
Post by: Joshturner on 03/02/2005 21:24:31
I had a heart attack 3 1/2 years ago when I was 33 years old.  Shorlty after I started getting PVC's or as I describe it my heart seems to skip a beat and then I feel a thud in my chest on the enxt heart beat.  After a short while it stopped happening.  Last year around this time it started again and lasted a few weeks before it stopped again. My doctor told me not to worry about it and that it could happen the rest of my life.  Every onceand a while it would happen again.

Over the past week plus it has started again. I have no chest pain, light headness.........   It is like Chineese Water torcher.  What scares me the most is that even though the doctor tells me to just ignore them its that same skipped heart beat that I felt just before I had my heart attack.

I do not smoke.  I have no virus or cold.  I rarely drink coffee.....

Does anyone else have to deal with this and do you have any suggestions?

There are meds to treat cardiac irritability, but most times it's not treated unless it's causing symptoms other than discomfort.  In other words, unless it causes a problem with your heart rhythm, it's generally not treated.  All of us have some PVC's in the course of the day.  In the ICU, we don't get alarmed unless they're consistently more than six a minute.

Inclined Bed Therapy has been shown to help heart conditions. This is when the head end of the bed is elevated by six inches or fifteen cm's. Providing a level but tilted angle from head to toe.

A friend of mine had a metal valve fitted to his heart. This caused continual fibrillation and many episodes of missed heart beats, particularly during the night. His hands, feet, nose and lips were blue, circulation very bad.

After a few days of IBT normal skin tone was reported and observed by myself. His wife added, no more missed heartbeats and no more fibrillation. Also confirmed by a doctor in my presence, who was most impressed with the change in his condition.
