This is probably a very odd request, but I know someone who would like to get a tattoo. Problem is, they want something that is sort of nerdy (an equation or something similar) that is representative of our insignificance in the universe. I'm having trouble finding anything that remotely fits that description since I'm certainly no scientist (or scienc-y type person).
If anyone has a creative idea or equation/representation they can think of, please let me know!

What about the einstein field equations

or the dirac equation, or shroedinger equation. But frankly unless your friend could begin to explain it - I think people are gonna think "what a pseud!"
-
I also chose the same but many people would choose E=MC^2 but I think that rather passe, I rather love the 8pi bit
the Schwarzschild solution also looks attractive 48G2M2/C2r6
Perhaps some kind soul could improve the typrography

I tend to agree. If it's a really permanent tattoo, your friend would be much safer sticking with something like
"I Love Mum"

The tattoo won't be in a viewable spot so that isn't an issue.

Soft Watch At Moment of First Explosion by Salvador Dali
it's a statement.
-
Bet you didn't know that Salvador Dali had "I Love Mum" tattooed on his bum.
-
A nerdy tattoo will look good to all the people who really like a smart-arse.
I wouldn't go for it.
-
And 'exactly how' do you know?
Hmmm.

Awh, sorry :)
Such a diseased imagination is mine..
Maybe I will get well, some day?
-
I suppose
"I think, therefore I'm not sure"
might not be too bad.
-
Depending on their ethnic background, "I'm pink, therefore I'm spam" might get a few laughs, but is that the idea?
-
Who changed my post on the 'clock'. Or did the TNS do that on its own?
Now it looks ridiculous? :)
I liked it better when it showed only the full 'jpg' and no 'thumbnails'.
-
Strange! Something is afoot, or maybe at hand.

The drake equation looks quite cool but I would like an equation that includes one of these '∑'(excuse lack of mathematical education)

Spin this round a bit?

Alternatively, how about a ratio showing no. of predicted planetary civilisations to no. of billion stars? (x 10x)

Careful now: apparently tattoos are addictive ...

A simple one over infinity over zero should suffice.

A simple one over infinity over zero should suffice.
Sufficient for what? To show that you don't understand that division by zero is undefined?

He might take it a step further of course. Maybe some bodily modification too? Why not, if it's addictive? Better warn him off. Although having a replica of the moon created in ones hairdo indeed will present a levitated personality it might be misinterpreted by some unenlightened.
