Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Re: With unlimited budget, what would be your ideal space exploration project ?
« on: 18/11/2022 12:49:44 »
If we are talking about the space exploration project.. I think my ideal project can be connected with the space observation of the Earth with satellite constellations. I will leave the link below to the article that inspired me. With the help of such satellites, we can better monitor the Earth for such purposes like global warming.

General Science / Re: So how big a nuclear bomb would it take to cover the UK with a tsunami anyway

Dorothy, USA did similar as well, though unintentionally when it irradiated a whole lot of the Marshall Islands as well during testing.  The USSR also was not exactly careful with handling waste, which is why there are so many former Soviet republics with massive areas that it is lethal to go, and also large areas where the life expectancy is severely limited due to all the dumped nuclear waste there. USA also dumped waste, but at least has done a fair amount of work in both remediating and removing the waste, putting it into long term storage areas that do not allow dust to be blown away. There are ex Soviet area lakes where you can get a lethal dose of radiation within 5 minutes of approaching them, even in full NBC suits, and there even is a lake that has the dubious distinction of being ice free in Siberian winter, from all the radioactive decay there, and where approaching within 100m of the edge is lethal.

I know about the US.
However, I recently discovered that information regarding USSR.

But what should I expect from a country that doesn't care about the disposal of nuclear waste? As they can leave them in crowded cities or near any river.

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Re: Is ant behaviour instinctive?

I asked an ant. He said "Some humans spend their lives growing and harvesting  vegetables or milking cows. The means by which these skills are replicated in subsequent generations is not known. The greater mystery is why they tolerate and even feed the majority of humans who seem to have no useful function at all."

That's well put.

Robert seeks answers to this question about nature during Winter weather.

"Do birds ever break their beaks pecking on the ice?"

Should we be concerned for the birds? Put your answers and other tips for helping nature during Winter in the comments below...

We can always feed animals or raise additional money for zoological organizations. The last knows what to do with it.

Marine Science / Re: Why is the ocean salty?

There are salts in the soil which get flushed into the rivers and then the sea by rainfall. When the sun evaporates the water to form more clouds and rain the salt gets left behind in the sea, so if you repeat that cycle for billions of years the salt in the sea becomes more and more concentrated.

It's a usual water cycle, right?
The peculiarity of the atmosphere.

Research shows that trees, plants, pollinators and wildlife are harmed by wireless radiation.
Please present that evidence here.

It seems that was spam.

Nobody wants to start a global nuclear war, because everyone will lose.
Quote from: Einstein, 1949
“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”

Yes, there is no winner in it. Only catastrophic consequences for the world.

Would have to be big, and to make a tsunami in deep water that shelves towards the UK mainland. North sea would be possible, would swamp parts a little of the north, but any one that is detonated would result in harm to many other coasts at the same time, leading to the USSR getting a few replies sent to them space express.

Btw, did you know that USSR tried nuclear bombs on its soldiers?
They did an experiment when the bomb exploded. That was an imitation of an attack by the enemy. Soldiers were equipped not well and many of them died after such a terrible "testing".

The Environment / Re: Tipping Point?

Precisely the case.

All you have to do is get rid of religion and economics, and persuade women not to have more than one child.

Their grandchildren and subsequent generations will be able to live sustainably, with an increasing standard of living, and the human race will be able to survive the inevitable changes of climate  for the next million years.

Not a bad legacy for doing nothing.

That's the exact thing we need to do. Why do people need more than one child? Is there any need?
We don't live in the middle ages, where you had to have more children to increase the probability that one of the heirs stay alive, while the other will die from any disease. People don't need many children to help them with hard work.

Beware of fresh water swimming in warm weather. The amoeba naeglaria fowleri will eat your brain for lunch if it gets up your nose. I don't know how widespread this organism is but it certainly is a problem in the us.

This applies only to freshwater bodies.

Geek Speak / Re: Are laptops more energy economical than desktops?
« on: 14/11/2022 11:48:36 »
I heard that desktops consume 10 times more energy than laptops.
Yes, the laptop should be recharged by a specific time period, but it is much better to use. You can work/study from everywhere.

As I know, there are no risks for humans.

But does wifi really hurt the environment? Does it cause a negative impact like car engines?
I don't think so. There are many more dangerous things than that.
