PIty you don't read my posts, Pete, because I sympathise with you. Most governments have an illogical and inconsistent obsession with narcotics. The result is that the illegal, unregulated and untaxed trade in narcotics is the largest single industry in the world (bigger even than concrete, thought he net tonnage of product is much smaller) and most economies would collapse without it. In fact the USA is the most fragile: nearly all the "trickle down" cash that reaches the poorest in society, comes directly or indirectly from the narcotics trade. Without it, there would either be a genuine peasants' revolt or the government would have to introduce socialist levels of taxation and redistribution. Either way it would seriously disrupt the aristocracy, so the DEA is appointed to keep the trade illegal and profitable.

Both Alan and I live in UK where doctors do prescribe opioids when needed. The only doctors who would get a visit from our DEA equivalent would be those engaging in illegal activity eg selling supplies.
Although these guidelines are not US guidelines, I hope they will help if you do any lobbying.
