Rhys Leslie asked the Naked Scientists:
Hey Guys,Â
I am a teacher from Australia and have a quick question for you about drinking.
If you have had a big night out, when you wake up the next day with a dry mouth, there is often a solid substance lining the inside of your mouth. Could you tell me what this is?
Thanks
Rhys
What do you think?

Kebab sauce
Superficial layer of mucous membrane sloughing off because of its exposure to (dehydrating) alcohol.
Alcohol is a drying agent and causes sloughing to occur
