Title: What's the cheapest way to recharge batteries - car, USB, wall sockets...?
Post by: thedoc on 04/12/2016 15:53:01
Peter Edwards asked the Naked Scientists:
I am trying to do my bit for the planet. With all the gadgets I have, most using rechargeable batteries, I want to know the cheapest way of recharging them. I have a solar charger but living in the UK not much sun at this time of the year. I wondered if it is cheaper to charge my gadgets in my car, using the power points in my home or connecting them to my PC and using the USB to charge them.
Thanks

What do you think?

It costs very little to charge smart phone batteries from the mains only pennies not worth worrying about!
If you leave the computer on to get the USB sockets live that is wasteful but of course running the car just to charge the phone is a ridiculous way of doing it but if you are running the car anyway the increase in fuel consumption is to small to measure.
