Is UK sunshine after 5pm useless for Vitamin D formation?
« on: 06/07/2020 17:57:48 »
Gabriel sent us this question:

I work 9-5 in the summer months, and according to the NHS website, ultraviolet rays are high between the hours of 11am-3pm. Should I not bother getting any sunshine after work as it’s useless in Vitamin D formation?

Any thoughts?

Any is better than none. A clear evening is better than a cloudy midday. Summer cloud cover is often maximal between midday and 3 pm.

Uv is mostly blocked by clothing so any uv is limited to your face  and hands.  People with high ammounts of meanin in there skin often suffer rickets in the northern areas due to the fact that the angle of the sun is not high enough during the winter for uv to penetrate the atmosphere in high quantities, so it must be something similar to a low summer sun. Going to work naked during the winter and this should cure the problems
