It is well accepted that there are at least 4 dimensions, the 4th being time. This is part of Einsteins Theory of Special Relativity. Modern physics has a number of theories resulting from studies in particle physics and quantum theories suggesting that there may be many more but that these dimensions are curled up tightly so they are not apparent. String theory suggests 10, 11 or even 26! Braneworld concepts have 5. These are complex topics which you could check out on the web.
