Just little puzzler for you.....
Ohio is a Midwest state of the USA, but where in the Mediterranean might you also find Ohio and why might it be said to be set on a pedastal?

Tip: Its got nothing to do with China.

During WWII, the British Mediterranean island colony of Malta was strategically vital to the North Africa Campaign by hindering supplies from Italy to Field Marshal Erwin Rommel’s Afrika Korps.
The Luftwaffe and Italian Air Force continually bombed Malta and the convoy’s resupplying the island, which also had to endure attacks by U Boats and the Italian surface fleet.
In the summer of 1942 Malta was dangerously short of supplies, surrender was imminent. In August a convoy of 14 merchant ships escorted by 39 warships set sail for Malta. Under almost constant attack by aircraft and submarines from the time they cleared the straights of Gibralta, 4 of the escort warships were sunk and just 5 of the merchant ships made it to Malta.
Among those to make it, though crippled by multiple hits, was the vitally imperative tanker SS Ohio. With her back broken and engines inoperative, the huge tanker was sandwiched between the destroyers HMS Penn & HMS Ledbury and towed by another destroyer, HMS Bramham. On August 14th the Ohio, powered and kept afloat by her destroyer outriggers and tug limped into Valetta Harbour to the cheers of the Maltese people.
The tanker, once at her berth, was allowed to sink to the shallow harbour bed and unloaded of her precious cargo. She remained in the harbour until the end of the war.
In September 1946 the wreck of the Ohio was re-floated, towed 10 miles out of Valetta Harbour and allowed to go to her final resting place on the sea bed.
This convoy, though suffering heavy losses, was considered a turning point for Malta and the North Africa Campaign. The Maltese still consider the SS Ohio to have been their saviour and in August 2012 a memorial was unveiled to honour the men, the SS Ohio and other ships of that convoy code named Operation Pedestal.

The top quadrant nearest the flag pole contains the UK Union Flag, a remnant of the island's past association with the British empire.
In Heraldic terms, this quadrant of a flag is known as the Canton.
Other flags with the Union Flag in canton include those of Australia, New Zealand, Bermuda and Fiji. Also the Canadian provinces of BC, Manitoba and Ontario.
