Title: Gyroscopic procession responsible for impacted planets orbital plane stability?

When planets such as the earth and neptune are struck by other bodies, knocking them out of upright rotation , is or could gyroscopic procession responsible for keeping the planet on the same orbital plane as to the orbital plane of the planetary formation disc of the sun?

I am trying to come up with a reason why planets are not sent off at a different orbit when impacted.

Gyroscopic procession is when the movement is at 90 degrees to the force, a strange event.

The earth is not rotating ar rpm or rph so it  seems slow, but it has alot more mass. Would gyroscopic procession be valid for a side swipe as much as bottom or top impact ?
