Rowan Padayachee asked the Naked Scientists:
What is the Secret to life ?
What do you think?
-
I'm not telling, it's a secret!

LOVE

42

Not to think too much about what life is all about and why we are here. If you do you spend too much time mooning about getting depressed instead of living life to the full. So basically, just get on with it.

42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything. Not the secret of life. Sorry. [;D]

Possibly along a similar vein, I was wondering about souls while I was going home on the tube the other day, and how, without fail, every single person born in the world seems to have a soul.
Although, I wouldn't know what a soul-less person looked like, or acted like. Would they have no personality? No ability to reason? No emotion?
So, where does the soul come from? Maybe it's not 'supernatural' at all, and is part of the chemical make-up of all beings. Assuming soul-less people cannot exist, I can see no other logical explanation.

I am sorry, but I am not self-aware.
Can't you tell.

Assuming soul-less people cannot exist
There might be some people in correctional services that would disagree.
"Demand me nothing. What you know, you know.
From this time forth I never will speak word."
Iago....
... often considered to be amoral.

Can you help me solve Hilbert's sixteenth problem?
When you get an answer I'll tell you the secret. [:)]

Isn't this verging on the unstated major premise that souls actually exist? I don't think that they do - it is merely a human interpretation and compartmentalisation of an individual's character traits that by consensus, people have decided to call "soul" (in English, at least).
