Well, as we all know, science doesn't work like that. Scientific research gets trapped in more box canyons than the Lone Ranger; does more U-turns than the average government; falls to certain death more often than Wile E Coyote; has more women in it than you might at first imagine (though probably not nearly enough); and generally gets the wrong answer.

Bitcoin is a snake oil scam, oh sure it's fine now but when the market goes south and by south I mean minus 20 to 50 percent in the span of 16 hours Apple will lose over a trillion dollars worth of market cap, but the company will still be there making the same wares.  Neither you nor anyone can explain why bitcoin has any worth.  So I'll stick with these you enjoy your bitcoins while you can

This week I was asked to provide a commentary for the BBC on bitcoin and what this technology means. The peg was the discovery, by rapper 50 cent, of $8 million in bitcoins that he'd lost down the back of his sofa.

In the course of my research on the topic I came across a lot of extremely impenetrable and frankly weak explanations of bitcoin, the underpinning technology, including block chain, and why it exists at all.

I think we can all do much better and provide a really clear and definitive explanation of bitcoin, its inception, operation and future.

It would really help to have a series of questions that we can answer to explain this.

Who would like to kick off?
