I have noticed an unusual sociological phenomenon in children involving songs that have been sung by kids nation wide for a very long time and for the most part don't make much sense and seem as if they have a cryptic meaning. the songs I speak of go something like this
"ring around the rosy."
or
"it raining its poring"
or
"remember, remember the 5th of November"
or
"baa baa black sheep"
or
"Mary, Mary"
you have to admit that you know at least some of these songs which you knew from child hood. the list goes on but to me Its odd that most everyone knows these songs by heart and the alleged meaning of the songs are incredibly dark. ring around the rosy refers to mass death caused by the bubonic plague, the fifth of November refers to someone blowing up British parliament, mary mary refers to burning witches at the stake. nearly all rhymes like that were made in the far past as a way to innocently to talk about very disturbing things going on back then, its almost a secret history past down in song. The only thing that begets me is why these songs are children's songs and the fact that we all know them so well even though they were made so long ago and most of us don't understand the meaning behind the rhymes. I don't think elementary schools teach all of these songs to kids but I don't really know.
I wonder if they are connected in some conspiracy or something.

It isn't just songs. If you have kids, you will discover them telling the exact same jokes you heard in the second grade, or hear the same "taunts" ("I know you are, but what am I?" "Made you look!") Yeah, the preservation of kid culture is truly amazing, despite television and computers. (Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg...)

However, these claims are generally regarded to be incorrect because of the lateness of this explanation arising, the fact that the symptoms of plague do not actually match the words of the song, and that earlier and foreign language variations of the song do not match up to the theory.
There are however, many people who still subscribe to this theory, despite the fact that it is highly improbable that it's correct.
