Dearest Snailogists,
As a sheepy I of course luff snails...snails are my all time favourite sluggy things with shells on them. I know they mess your garden up and this is why my neighbour happily allows me to throw all of mine into his vegetable patch.

Norman Doing What Snails Do..and that is...being a snail !..DOH !!
Last time we had a downpour, Norman and his chums decided they wanted to large it pavement style !!....why's that then ?...why does rainy stuff make Norman and his chums decide that it's 'pavement time'...
This is the time when unfortunately after getting out of my car I have experienced the "crunch factor !" *le sigh*
Ewe see, this is something that I do not know !...I heard abut this place from someone and thought it would be a good place to ask this question.

Snails and worms come up when it starts raining because they, when dry, live in areas that are easily flooded by the rain (Worms in the ground, snails in narrow places like under pieces of wood or otherwise shadowed places). They, just as we, are capable of drowning, so the reason why they go on to pavements is generally to seek higher places or places free from flooding until the rain stops.

I can see why wormies need to come up for air but don't snails camp under a leaf or upon a branch or something above ground ?............hmm..perhaps I am not thinking this through right......maybe it's the snails at ground level who then decide to go ' pavement skiing ' and the ones I referred to are Ok where they are.
Wish I could hide under a leaf in the rain.

I believe your idea is right. It is only the snails from under bushes or otherwise narrows places which comes out. Those that are already higher up, should have no business in coming down. Norman is safe for now [:D]

I believe your idea is right. It is only the snails from under bushes or otherwise narrows places which comes out. Those that are already higher up, should have no business in coming down. Norman is safe for now [:D]
Phew !!...that's a relief....I was getting worried about him.........*sheepy chucks Norman next door*..I hope he's ok ! *sound of snail against fence is heard*...ooops !!

Regarding worms & rain: About a month ago I saw a puddle of water, less than two meters across, that had about twenty dead worms in it. Curiously, the dead worms were concentrated in the middle of the puddle and not around the edges, as one might expect if the worms were trying to climb up the sides of the puddle (which were not very steep) to get out of the water.
I couldn't see any obvious reason for why the worms should not have escaped from the puddle or why they seem to have drowned so quickly.
I've seen plenty of puddles in similar circumstances but I can't recall ever seeing this before.
